This is a reminder for our upcoming roping event this Saturday, May 9th, at the Las Cruces Dona Ana County fairgrounds.

Entries will open at 7:00 AM and close at 9:00 AM, with the roping starting at 10:00 AM. Please be considerate of our office staff and submit your entries as early as possible.

We are aware that a World Series roping is scheduled for the same weekend. They will be using the outdoor arena on Saturday while we will be in the covered arena. For questions regarding their Sunday schedule, please contact their organizers directly. While the fairgrounds will be busier than usual, there are plenty of stalls and parking available, and we do not anticipate any issues.

Our next roping will be held on April 11 at the BLT Arena in Tularosa, located at:
51 Sioux Trail
Tularosa, NM

The venue offers plenty of parking. There are 50 stalls available on a first-come, first-served basis for $15 per stall. We will be using the honor system for payment, and you can give your stall fees directly to me.
The nearest motels will be in Alamogordo with Ruidoso being the next closest.

I am looking into additional stall options in case we exceed the initial 50, and I will share those details if they become available. In the meantime, please try to bring only the horses you need if you plan on using a stall.

Also, don't forget about the Rope n Stroke on Friday. If this is something you would enjoy or have questions please get with Tom Miller or Gabe Sapien.

NMBTRA Rope N’ Stroke April 10
Eligibility
• This event is for fun havers who like to compete — and compete honestly.
• Only 2026 NMBTRA members are eligible to enter.
• Contestants must enter as a complete team (2 ropers).
• Two-person teams must be entered by Wednesday.
• Each entered team will draw another team.
• Draw will be held Friday morning before golf begins.
• Entry fees must be paid before golf. Teams not paid will not be included in the draw.
• NMBTRA rules will be in effect for this event.

Entry Fees
• $200 per man
• Entry fee includes green fees.

Golf Information
• Golf starts at 10:00 AM
• Location: The Links at Sierra Blanca

Pre-Entry by Wed before
• Pre-enter by texting 903-245-4792.
• Text the full team entry including:
◦ Header name
◦ Heeler name

4-Man Scramble
• A 4-Man Scramble will be played.
• “Bogey is your friend” format applies.

Team Roping Format
• Team Roping is a 9.5 Handicap.
• Each contestant will rope:
◦ Three (3) steers with their picked partner
◦ Three (3) steers with their drawn partner
• Each contestant will rope a total of six (6) steers.
• The aggregate will be the combined team time on twelve (12) steers.
• A 60-second time will be assessed for any no-time.

Points System
Points will be awarded in both the 4-Man Scramble and the Team Roping:
1st = 10, 2nd = 9, 3rd = 8 … 10th = 1

Payout
Based on 10 four-man teams entered:
• 1st Place
• 2nd Place
• 3rd Place
(Three places paid with 10 teams entered.)

Awards
• Championship Buckles will be awarded to the team with the highest combined total points from both the 4-Man Scramble and the Team Roping.
