Las Cruces Arts Association The Las Cruces Arts Association has been serving the visual arts community of Las Cruces, New Mexico since 1962

The Las Cruces Arts Association is a 501c3 organization, established in 1962. The purpose of the Las Cruces Arts Association is to foster an environment for artists of all levels, to come together to learn and to share the joy of art and to extend that enjoyment to the greater community. Membership to the Las Cruces Arts Association is $30 per year. Members receive, opportunities to exhibit their

work during the First Friday Art Ramble, 3rd Saturday Farmers Market, Alternative Exhibition Venues throughout the city and to attend workshops and demonstrations, as well has the camaraderie of other artists and advocates. All artists, art groups and art lovers of all ages are invited to join us to market, explore and experience the arts and artists of Las Cruces.

There is still time to enter the Quick Art Competition at the Arts Council Art Fair next weekend.The Quick Draw takes place on Saturday, March 7th from 11 - 12 at the Convention Center. There are cash prizes and the artworks go up for a live auction also. It's a fun event to participate in. Attached is the application form.

MARCH NEWSLETTER

MEMBER MEETING:
Sunday, March 15, 1:30 at Good Sam’s art room. The program will be a presentation by Gretchen Blais about a group project in which she has been involved in recent years. Those people who are interested in participating pick a subject or theme for the group project. Over a period of weeks they create three separate pieces related to the theme and use the other artists’ work to inspire their own creations. Sounds interesting!

AMARO EXHIBIT
The February artists continue at the winery in March, with a second artist reception on Friday March 13, from 4 - 6. Remember to support our artists, while enjoying wine and refreshments.

ART OPPORTUNITY
The Las Cruces Space Festival presents “Dawn of Discovery”, a multi-media exhibit of artwork inspired by the Universe and the excitement of space exploration. We are looking for artists working in all mediums to submit their work for consideration- from oil on canvas, sculptures, video, performance and more!
The Las Cruces Space Festival (LCSF) is an annual celebration of space: past, present and future. As part of the Festival, March 30- April 4 2020, we will be hosting an exhibit of space-themed artwork: “Dawn of Discovery” at the Bank of the West, next to the Plaza de Las Cruces. this location is central to all our events at the Festival and offers an abundance of space for artists to fill.
Our 2019 art exhibit ‘Our Place in Space’ was seen by 3,000 people and attracted international interest thanks to our partnership with the European Space Agency. LCSF also works in partnership with space companies such as NASA, Jacobs, Spaceport America, Virgin Galactic and many influential businesses in Las Cruces.
Submissions are due by March 10th. Please email artwork submissions as JPEG files to: [email protected] along with links to websites/ social media pages, dimensions of the piece and display instructions. If your work is 3D, please send several images showing multiple angles of your piece. A panel of curators will be choosing the artwork that will be displayed at the Bank of the West during the Festival week. Artists will be notified by March 15th if their work has been selected for the exhibit. Artwork installation will take place at the exhibition location on March 26 and 27.

MEMBERS MEETING
will be on Sunday February 16, 1:30 to 3:00. Members are invited to bring a sample or two of their artwork. I think we will be amazed at the diversity and richness of our members work and will appreciate knowing more about each of our artists. If you haven’t submitted information for the member section of our Website Rowan Baxa will be at the meeting and will take photos of 3 pieces of your art work and a photo of you for $20 - to post on the website.

MEMBER MEETING
Our Member Meeting on Sunday, December 15, will be a Christmas Party! We meet at 1:30 at
the Good Samaritan Art Room. There will be drinks and a variety of snacks to eat. Please bring a wrapped present, no more than $10, for our gift exchange. Everyone will have a number and will take turns choosing one of the wrapped gifts or “stealing” from someone else who has opened their
gift. It’s a fun time! The felt purses will again be available for purchase. Please RSVP to Susan Bender at [email protected], so that the appropriate amount of food can be purchased.

IMPORTANT NEWS
Las Cruces Art Association has a new location for meetings and workshops. Beginning in November,
we will meet in the Good Samaritan Creative Arts Room, located in the main building at 3025 Terrace Dr., off Telshor. This is a spacious room and there is no cost to use the room.

ANYTHING GOES!
Intake of art work is Friday, November 8th, 10 to 11 at the Big Picture on Lohman. The opening reception is Friday, November 15, 5 - 7 pm. Participants are asked to bring either wine or a sweet or savory snack. We are still accepting entries through Oct. 31.

AMARO WINERY EXHIBIT
The current exhibit “Art & Wine, Sweet” is up through December 4th. The Meet the Artists event is Friday, November 8, 6-8 pm. Artists include Carrie Greer, Cheryl Nelson, Mary Beagle, Gabriele Teich, Irma Lee and Jan Minow. Irma Lee has generously provided a raffle prize for the evening.

The December-January exhibit begins December 4th and continues through January 29th, with Meet the Artists events on Friday, Dec. 13, 6-8 and Friday, January 10, 6-8.

LAS CRUCES ARTS ASSOCIATION
MEMBER MEETING

The program for our meeting on Sunday, Nov. 17th is a demonstration by Linda Gendall. She
will show us how to apply gold leaf on a canvas board and how it can be used on other surfaces.
Linda started using gold leaf on illuminated manuscripts back in New Jersey in 1974!! She has used gold leaf on many surfaces, many of which she will have with her to show.

The meeting begins at 1:30 with a short business meeting followed by the demonstration.
Reminder: the meeting location is now at Good Sam, on Buena Vida Circle.

WINDOW PAINTING
The Arts & Cultural District Committee, the Downtown Las Cruces Partnership (DLCP) and Las Cruces Public Art (LCPA) seek artists to design and produce temporary exhibitions on Downtown Mainstreet for Ventanas Vivas starting November 16, 2019. This painting event can be the beginning of a new tradition in Downtown Las Cruces. As an artist you can be one of its pioneers. Application closes November 14, 2019.

AMARO WINERY EXHIBIT
LCAA artists are having their 2nd Friday “Meet the Artists” at the Amaro Winery this evening, from 7 - 9pm. Sorry for the late notice.

Computer enhanced photography is acceptable, but not computer generated.

All work must be original, not done under supervision or advice resulting in modification, not copied from copyrighted or published art, and must have been completed within the past two years. Work must be appropriately framed and ready to hang with wire hangers. No bulldog or sawtooth hangers permitted.

Each artist may submit TWO Small pieces OR ONE Medium or Large piece. Small Pieces: Minimum size: 10” x 14” to Maximum size: 16 x 20 (outside frame dimensions.). Medium to Large pieces Maximum size: 30” x 40” outside frame dimension.

SUBMIT: Title, Medium, Size and Selling Price (for wall labels) no later than October 20th to Judy at [email protected]. Please indicate if tables or pedestals are needed.

FEES: The hanging fee is $25 for the two month exhibit.. Fees will be paid at the Take-in Date. Each entry MUST be labeled on the back with title of work, name of artist, phone or email.

MEMBER MEETING - Sept. 15, 1:30
Hope everyone has had a relaxing and fun summer. Welcome back to our new year!.

Our Members Meeting will be on Sunday, September 15th at Cruces Creatives at 205 E. Lohman from 1:30 - 3:30pm.
LCAA has invited Vicky Avery to demonstrate 'CREATING MANDALAS’.
Vicky is originally from Minnesota. She has earned a BA in Fine Arts, MA in Divinity and has years of experiences in theater. Vicky works with multi-media and most recently has been working with colored pencils to create mandalas. She is a Reiki Master, a fire walker, and an avid animal rights advocate. She has worked in hospice for 20 yrs, in addition to working as a school bus driver and instructor for 11 yrs.
Guests are Welcome.

MEMBER EXHIBITS
A reminder that Karen Zibert and Carrie Greer have a show at Rokoko Gallery opening
Saturday, Sept. 14 at 4 - 7 pm. The exhibit is called She Waxes “Encaustic Explorations.”

Also opening on Sept. 14 is the new gallery, Agave Artists. They will be open from noon to 9 pm, with music and refreshments 5 - 7 pm. The gallery is located at 2250 Calle de San Albino in Mesilla.

LCAA EXHIBIT APPLICATION: LCAA is submitting an application to the Dona Ana Arts Council Center for exhibiting in 2020. I will need several pictures of art work to submit with the application. NEW MESILLA GALLERY OPENS: AGAVE ARTISTS, a new artist-owned cooperative gallery, has opened its doors just off the old Mesilla plaza. The four-room gallery exhibits the work of 20 local and regional artists in a variety of media, including paintings and other wall art, plus 3-D sculpture and ceramic art, as well as original jewelry.

AGAVE ARTISTS is located at 2250 Calle de San Albino in an adobe building that is part of the historic Josefina’s Old Gate property. Visitors may enter the gallery from its Calle de San Albino entrance or through Josefina’s Cafe patio.

The gallery is now open from 11 am to 5 pm Thursdays through Mondays. An opening reception is planned for September 14th, 2019 from noon to 9 pm. Come meet the artists and enjoy the featured art and music. Refreshments will be served.
