The Greening of Detroit is urgently seeking volunteers for a few of our upcoming tree plantings, and we'd love to have your organization join us! The dates are below:

Thursday, October 22nd
Saturday, October 31st (highest priority)

Please note the special instructions for registering in the Eventbrite descriptions. All volunteers must individually register, even if they are part of a group. HeroFest 2026 - Oct. 3, Lansing
Hosted by the Lansing Area Veterans Coalition, this event will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Alfreda Schmidt Community Center, 5825 Wise Rd., Lansing, MI 48911.

HeroFest will honor the men and women who have served and continue to serve their communities. Attendees can connect with local organizations, explore vendor booths, learn about community resources and enjoy activities and family fun throughout the afternoon.

America's Thanksgiving Day Parade looking for veterans!

The Parade Company is seeking veterans to carry the American flag in the 100th Annual America’s Thanksgiving Parade presented by Gardner White on Thursday, Nov. 26, at Wayne State University Student Center, 5221 Gullen Mall, Detroit, MI 48202.

Here's what you need to know:

Time commitment: Approximately 7 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Physical requirement: You'll need to be able to walk three miles while carrying the flag.
Attire: The Parade Company provides a navy jacket featuring the American flag to new volunteers to keep. Returning volunteers are asked to wear their jacket from last year, along with their own black pants and comfortable shoes.
If you would like to participate, please complete the online application below.

When you sign up, please make sure to indicate if you are a returning marcher and if so let us know if you still have your jacket from last year.

After submitting, you will get a confirmation email with next steps on or before Oct. 1.
