Snakes, often called serpents, play a vital role in healthy ecosystems around the world. As both predators and prey, they help maintain balance by controlling rodent populations and supporting food webs across forests, wetlands, grasslands, and deserts.

Snakes are also powerful teaching ambassadors. By learning about their behavior, adaptations, and ecological roles, we can replace fear with understanding and appreciation. From their ability to sense vibrations to their specialized hunting strategies, serpents are uniquely adapted to thrive in their environments.

At Potter Park Zoo, our reptiles help guests of all ages learn why snakes matter and how conservation and education are key to protecting wildlife and shared habitats.
