We can only imagine what it must have been like for Marsha's daughter to move into the home of Artis White and his two daughters not long after Bernitas murder. She had two new sisters whom she grew to love deeply. And then at some point Angela figured out the truth, and stopped pretending that everything was ok. Trooper Artis White has intentionally misled people to believe that his divorce from Bernita was amicable.
On May 24, 2001, Bernita filed for divorce from Artis, whom she feared would kill her.
But, Artis - who was having an affair with a MSP employee - didn't want the divorce. In response to the divorce, Artis hired private investigator Charles Rettsdadt, to keep tabs on Bernita's whereabouts and her friends. Artis began misusing the MSP LEIN system to check on Bernita and her friends. AND, Bernita confided in friends, that she believed Artis had eavesdropped on her phone conversations.
Artis hunted Bernita down -- nothing amicable about that.

WMU Cold Case Program with Michigan State Police bringing more justice!

Bringing justice to Linda’s family & community💙

Nothing is more meaningful than bringing justice to the ones who deserve it the most. Steven Koon was found guilty of second-degree murder of Linda Meteer on June 8th, 2026. Linda’s son, explains “I’m just grateful there’s somebody (being) held accountable.” Continuing, Grand Traverse County Sheriffs Department Detective Captain Chris Clark says that he credits the “detective team, the students with the WMU Cold Case Program and the workers at the Michigan State Police Forensic Labs for cracking the case.” Our Broncos are immensely honored to have been a key in helping detectives in solving Linda’s case and bringing peace to her family.
