🌱 LEAF is growing—and so is our impact!

We’re thrilled to share that the Lapeer County Community Foundation has received $75,000 in funding from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) through the Michigan Children’s Savings Account (CSA) Program Innovation & Sustainability Initiative, administered by CEDAM: The Community Economic Development Association of Michigan

This initiative supports established CSA programs as they strengthen long-term sustainability, accessibility, and impact.

The Lapeer County LEAF is part of the Michigan CSA Network and continues to be recognized as a leader and innovator in this field. Through LEAF, students across Lapeer County are connected early with community-based savings accounts that help them begin thinking about—and planning for—the postsecondary pathway that’s right for them.

This new funding will help us expand LEAF 360!, our innovative whole-child approach that connects students and families with resources supporting medical, physical, mental and socio-emotional, and financial health. It will also allow us to strengthen partnerships, refine our approach, and share what we’re learning with CSA programs across Michigan.

We’re grateful for this investment in Lapeer County students and families and excited about what’s ahead. When a community comes together to help kids dream big, the possibilities are pretty amazing. 💚🌱

Real Estate Development Boot Camp is a fast-paced, hands-on program designed to give you the tools needed to develop attainable housing in your community. Our Rural Boot Camp curriculum is comparable to our Boot Camp that takes place in urban contexts. The main difference is how we intentionally feature projects developed in rural and small towns, and the inclusion of speakers and funders who work in rural contexts.

Whether you are new to the field or need a refresher on the basics, this training is for you! We hope you will join us in Ga***rd, September 14-18, 2026.

CEDAM member and partner Opportunity Resource Fund has strengthened Michigan’s communities for more than forty years. Through affordable housing development, small business, and single-family mortgage loans, OppFund has leveraged more than $280 million to help Michiganders realize their dreams of homeownership, affordable housing, and entrepreneurship.

Starting as the Michigan Housing Trust Fund in the 80s, then merging with the McGhee Interfaith Loan Fund in the early 2000s, and finally becoming Opportunity Resource Fund in 2010, their goal has remained rooted in ensuring communities have access to affordable and reliable capital to strengthen neighborhoods and expand opportunities in a just and equitable way.

To learn about their impact on communities across Michigan, we encourage you to check out their website. There are a plethora of blog posts highlighting stories on homeownership journeys, entrepreneurship, and community solutions. You can currently read their blog, "A Rent-to-Own Journey: How a Detroit household of senior citizens owned their 'castle'," on our website: https://ow.ly/5B2j50ZFGcy

CEDAM will be sharing another of their blog posts in September.
