I am pleased to announce that House Bill 397 - Violations of Pretrial Release Conditions for Violent Crimes has just been signed into law by the Governor.
This new law creates a separate criminal offense for individuals who willfully violate a court-ordered no-contact condition while on pretrial release for specified violent offenses.
As a victim protection measure, this legislation strengthens safeguards for victims, holds offenders accountable for violating court orders, and helps ensure that those awaiting trial cannot intimidate, harass, or endanger the individuals they are prohibited from contacting.
