Dear Sisters & Brothers,

On Sunday, March 8, we recognize International Women’s Day, a global celebration of women’s achievements and a call to continue advancing equity and opportunity in our union, workplaces, and communities. The day has its roots in the early 20th century organizing of women workers, who demanded fair wages, safer working conditions, and the right to have a voice on the job. Their courage and determination helped shape the movement for workers’ rights that continues to guide our work today.

That same spirit of solidarity lives on here at the UFCW Local 1625.

Across our workplaces, women are stepping up and leading, organizing their co-workers, negotiating strong contracts, mentoring the next generation of leaders, and fighting every day for dignity and respect on the job. Their leadership makes our union stronger and helps build a better future for working families everywhere.

UFCW International President Milton Jones said:

“ICE and CBP continue to invade our communities, act with violence, and their presence has compromised public safety. Yesterday, masked agents killed Alex Pretti, a union member who cared for our nation’s veterans as a VA nurse. These horrors must end before even more people end up traumatized, injured, or dead.
“From Los Angeles to Chicago to Charlotte, the actions of ICE and CBP have struck fear into essential workers across this country. These are people who are simply trying to provide for their families and support their communities, but now must worry about violence reaching their stores or being detained on the way to their shift.
“Communities and local economies cannot thrive unless people feel safe. ICE must end the chaos, withdraw from Minneapolis and other cities and states, and allow people to live and work free from fear.”
