Happy !

Today we honor the legacy of the last enslaved African Americans in Texas who were finally informed of their freedom, some two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. It was those people, and the generations of Texans who came after them, who made the bold declaration to celebrate this day, marking a reality we know far too well in this country: freedom may be delayed, but it will never be denied.

Though our fight for freedom sadly continues, today we pause to celebrate and embrace the joy of our ancestors who believed in the possibilities of a more promising tomorrow. And in that joy, we remain anchored, steadfast in our pursuit of true freedom and justice for all.

As we celebrate Juneteenth week, and OUR upcoming freedom day, let's be intentional about how we show up, give back, and pay it forward.

Freedom isn’t just about rights, it’s about resources. When we give back to Black-led causes, we affirm the value of Black lives and ensure that liberation becomes a lived reality, not just a historic date. Service isn’t a moment, it’s a movement.

Today’s Challenge—
Support a Black-led cause through action or donation. Whether it’s providing books, sponsoring a child’s camp, or giving to an organization like NCNW your gift creates impact. Let’s give generously and live our mission with meaning. Ideas for today: donate gently used books to a Black youth program; sponsor a Black child’s summer experience; give to National Council of Negro Women (link in below). The Lakeland Alumnae Chapter proudly celebrates Jayde Coleman Stephens, Esq. on being recognized as the recipient of the 2026 Leader in the Law Award by the Polk Association of Women Lawyers.

This prestigious honor is presented in recognition of her significant contributions to the legal profession and the community at large. As the First Assistant Public Defender and Homicide Division Director for the Law Office of the Public Defender, Jayde exemplifies excellence, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to justice.

We are incredibly proud of your dedication, service, and impact within the legal community and beyond. Your leadership continues to inspire those around you and reflects the highest ideals of sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action. Jayde faithfully serves the Lakeland Alumnae Chapter as our Parliamentarian and serves as Chair on several other chapter committees.

Congratulations Soror Amanda Green!

We are continuing our spotlights of the authors for the upcoming Delta Authors on Tour in Nassau, Bahamas! Today we feature Phyllis Dixon, Memphis Alumnae Chapter; Amanda Green, Lakeland Alumnae Chapter; and Ashley Robinson, Montgomery -AL Alumnae Chapter.

Following one unstoppable woman's journey from the Jim Crow South to building a culinary empire in the North, it is a powerful story of sacrifice, ambition, and the painful truth that our greatest dreams sometimes come at the greatest cost.

Jackson Goes to Middle School is a reassuring story for every child who has ever felt nervous about a new chapter. Through Jackson's relatable journey, young readers learn that anxiety is manageable, courage is buildable, and the right habits can turn even the biggest transitions into incredible adventures.

Reconnecting My Brokenness is a compassionate guide for anyone who has ever felt lost in their own darkness. It walks readers through the journey of healing and self-renewal — reminding us that brokenness is not the end of the story, but the beginning of a warrior's fight back to wholeness.
