There is still time to sign up for the upcoming ERT training at Trinity UMC Tallahassee on Saturday, October 10. Registration cost is $15 and covers materials and tshirt. Lunch will be provided.

ERTs help with specific needs in the early days after a disaster, cleaning out flood-damaged homes, removing debris, placing tarps on homes and other tasks as needed, while providing a caring Christian presence.

This training is provided by an UMCOR-certified trainer. Participants learn the basics of disaster response, including how to stabilize and secure homes safely, and how to work effectively with survivors and others on the response team.

Did you know September is National Preparedness Month?
It’s a great reminder that being prepared before a disaster or emergency can make all the difference. Individuals, families, churches, and communities all have a role to play in making sure we’re ready when the unexpected happens.
We want every church and ministry across The Florida Conference of The United Methodist Church to be prepared! Now is the time to review your emergency plans, make updates where needed, and make sure your leaders know what to do when disaster strikes.
Check out the video below from our Disaster Response Coordinator, John Stiles Williams, and take a few minutes this month to ask: Is your church or ministry prepared?

Hurricane season is roaring up!

As we keep an eye on potential storms developing, now is a good time to ask: Have you started your preparations in case a storm comes our way?

Don’t wait until a storm is headed toward us to get ready. Take some time now to check your supplies, review your family’s emergency plan, make sure important documents are secure, and think through what you may need if you lose power or have to evacuate.

Preparation now can make a big difference later. And as we prepare our own homes, let’s also remember to check on our neighbors and those in our communities who may need a little extra help.

Be prepared. Stay informed. Take care of one another.

8 AM SAT | The tropical update this morning shows two areas we're watching. The first is what was once Tropical Storm Dolly that will move into the Bahamas by the end of the week. It could restrengthen back into a tropical system by then. The area in the Gulf is probably a little concerning to you this morning, but it will be moving WEST and not impact our area. I'll post futurecast showing that in a minute. Chances are low it will be much more than a rainmaker out west.

We are praying for Nepal and China!

Join us in prayer for those impacted by devastating flash flooding along the border of Nepal and Tibet today. We pray especially for the families and loved ones of those who have died or remain missing, and for those who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

As first responders assist survivors and search for the missing, UMCOR stands ready to support the response efforts of United Mission Nepal and other partners in the region.

Join us in prayer!

Join us in prayer for those impacted by historic levels of flash flooding and severe storms across multiple states in the Midwest United States this week, including Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, and Ohio. Widespread evacuations, damage to homes and businesses, and multiple deaths have been reported, with several areas still under flood watch today.

UMCOR is in close communication with the affected annual conferences, and we stand ready to support their response efforts as they care for their communities in need.
