Why art can make you live longer…,,

Good news for arts lovers: your hobby might be helping your health! According to NPR’s report, researchers at the University College of London found that engaging with the arts was linked to about a 4% slower rate of biological aging.

Interestingly, both “doers” and “viewers” benefit: actively singing or painting counts, but so does attending a concert or play. These findings are a great reminder that joy, curiosity, and culture can be part of a healthy routine.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the The Foundation for Florida Gateway College for generously sponsoring our upcoming art reception. The Foundation is well-known for its incredible dedication to enriching our community, funding student scholarships, and enhancing academic programs. Their vital support makes this special event possible as we gather to celebrate the work of artist Larry Elshoff.

This reception holds an extra special meaning, as Larry dedicated over 30 years of his life as a beloved professor at Florida Gateway College, inspiring generations of students right here in our community. We are incredibly proud to partner with a foundation that continues to champion education, growth, and the arts. Thank you for helping us honor Larry’s legacy and bring our creative community together.

Opening reception:
Friday, June 5th @ 5:30 pm
168 N Marion Ave. Lake City

Artists: let us know what's happening in your career! Today, we open with Ingrid Herzog. Keep an eye on WUFT Media (educational PBS TV channel in Gainesville). Ingrid is among a select group of north Florida artists featured in 60 sec. ads called "Artistry in Motion," sharing their particular brand of art throughout 2026. Hers will begin airing in June. Last year, another of our artists Sheila Carr was selected for this same honor -- the first time ever our Gallery artists have been included. Now -- two years in a row! Next: Ingrid has been selected to be included in a new Artist Collective inside the Oaks Mall in Gainesville.. Lastly, both Ingrid and artist Lisa Eikenberry are among the nominees for the PeoplesArtist.org (presented by Johnny Depp). You can go there and vote for them.
