The Vic isn’t just a skim contest.

Ahead of this weekend’s Vic Skim Contest, we caught up with skimboarding legend Geo Bryan to talk about the history behind the event, his family’s deep ties to the sport, and why this weekend means so much to the skimboarding community.

From the riders in the water to the generations of people who helped build the culture around it, the Vic is about more than who comes out on top. It’s a celebration of the people, history, and community that continue to make skimboarding what it is, and it is engrained in our towns identity.

Catch the action this weekend—and if you can’t make it down to the beach, you can watch the live heats on the Victoria Skimboards YouTube channel.

The Vic is more than just a skim contest. It’s a Laguna Beach tradition, a gathering of the skim community, and a chance to watch some of the world’s best skimmers put it all on the line.

We caught up with three of this year’s competitors to hear what makes The Vic so special—and why it’s an event you’ll want to experience for yourself.

KXFM is proud to be a sponsor of this year’s contest and to help celebrate the people, community, and traditions that make Laguna Beach what it is.

If you can’t make it down to the beach, head to Victoria Skimboards’ YouTube channel to catch the livestream.

See you this weekend!

We had a blast listening to some tunes and talking with Bristol C**n on Patti Compton show recently! It’s always fun to have new artists come by the station and share some of their music, experiences, and story with us.

Bristol will be playing at Beaumont's Eatery tonight in La Jolla-make sure to stop by if you’re in that neck of the woods and give him some love, you won’t regret it.

And don’t forget to catch some great local music in our wonderful town this weekend. Happy Friday Laguna!

If you’ve ever walked through Heisler Park, you’ve probably seen this piece. But you might not know the story behind it.

At Monument Point in Heisler Park stands Semper Memento — Latin for Always Remember — Laguna Beach artist Jorg Dubin’s memorial incorporating two steel beams from the World Trade Center.

We recently met Jorg at the piece to hear the story behind its creation, the meaning built into its design, and what it was like to transform objects connected to such a historic moment into a work of public art.

Jorg will be joining us for Art Matters on Wednesday, September 9 at the Rivian Theater, alongside Casey Parlette and Elisabeth Turk, for an evening of short documentaries, conversation, and a closer look at the artists and ideas behind the work.

📍 Rivian Theater
