Our friends at Hospice of Acadiana's Center for Loss & Transition are currently accepting registrations for Camp Brave Hearts, a free two-day grief camp for children ages 6โ€“12. CBH provides a supportive environment where children can connect with peers who have experienced loss, express their feelings, and learn healthy coping skills.

This is a wonderful resource for families in our area, and we are grateful for the care and support they provide each year. If this sounds like a good fit for a child in your life, be sure to check out the information in the original post. ๐Ÿ’™

Registration for Camp Brave Hearts is in full swing here at Hospice of Acadiana!๐Ÿฉต

Camp Brave Hearts is a free, two-day grief camp for children ages 6-12 who have experienced the death of a loved one. Campers are led through activities by trained bereavement volunteers, social workers, and counselors. Campers learn to appropriately express feelings and emotions with others who have experienced similar losses and gain coping techniques to better understand the family and social changes that often follow the death of a special person.
Registration is open now until Friday, July 10.
Spaces are limited; early registration is encouraged.

Over two days of training, these individuals invested their time, energy, and hearts into learning how to support children, teens, and families who are grieving. We are incredibly grateful that they have chosen to join our work and help further our mission that no child should grieve alone. ๐Ÿ’™

One week away ๐Ÿ’™

Our upcoming volunteer training was full, but we recently had one spot open up. If youโ€™ve been considering volunteering with Healing House, this may be your opportunity to step in.

Healing House volunteers help create safe, supportive spaces for children, teens, and families who are grieving, and the impact they make is felt far beyond group nights.

Training takes place June 5th and 6th, and applicants must be able to attend both days and commit to volunteering for at least one year.

Questions? Reach out anytime at 337-234-0443, [email protected] or apply through the link in our bio.

We were honored to deliver coping kits to LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Homes and spend time with Retanna Mire. These kits help provide comfort and support to children who are grieving in our community, and partnerships like this make that possible.

Looking for a meaningful summer sewing project? ๐Ÿงต

Our handmade feelings dolls are placed in the free coping kits we provide to children who are grieving throughout Acadiana, and we give away more than 600 every year.

A few months ago, we shared a similar request and the response was incredible. Nearly 80 people asked for the pattern and instructions! While we did receive some dolls back, our need is ongoing and we would love to keep our supply stocked for local families.

If you sew, quilt, craft, or know someone who does, this is a simple way to make a real difference for children in our community.

The sewing pattern, instructions, and drop-off information are all linked in our bio. ๐Ÿ˜„ Even making just a few helps more than you know ๐Ÿ’™

The photos pretty much say it all ๐Ÿ’™

Every week, our volunteers help create spaces where children can play, connect, express themselves, and just be kids, even in the middle of grief.

Volunteer training is just a few weeks away, and we still have a few spots left to fill. If youโ€™ve been thinking about getting involved or have questions about what volunteering looks like, weโ€™d love to talk with you. Reach out anytime at [email protected]

A huge thank you to the UL Pre-Professional Society for their continued support of Healing House ๐Ÿ’™

Through their Spring Raffle event, they raised an incredible $3,750 to support children, teens, and families who are grieving in our community. We are so grateful for this partnership and for the time, energy, and heart they pour into this fundraiser each year.

Your kindness and consistency mean more than you know. Thank you for choosing to support Healing House year after year.

Please join us in celebrating our May Above & Beyond Award winner, Mary Courville ๐ŸŽ‰

Maryโ€™s impact at Healing House is felt far beyond the hours she volunteers. She shows up with compassion, warmth, and a steady presence that helps children, caregivers, volunteers, and staff feel safe, supported, and truly seen.

As Maryโ€™s Group Director, Sara shared:
โ€œMary doesnโ€™t just volunteer her time; she gives her heart.โ€

Whether sheโ€™s walking alongside a caregiver during a difficult moment or offering encouragement to a fellow volunteer, Mary brings empathy, kindness, and hope into every room she enters. Her ability to create comfort and connection is something incredibly special, and the love she pours into Healing House leaves a lasting impact on so many families.

Mary, thank you for being such a light in our community. We are deeply grateful for you and all that you give to Healing House ๐Ÿ’™
