Leadership isn’t about a title. It’s about service.

The women who came before us knocked on doors, built community, and invested in future generations because they believed in something greater than themselves. That is the legacy we have the privilege to carry forward today.

This is a short excerpt from my remarks at our 70th Anniversary celebration. I’m grateful to stand on the shoulders of those who came before us.

It is a tremendous honor to serve as President of the La Mirada Ebell Women’s Club during our 70th Anniversary year.

As I reflected on this journey, I realized that this is actually my sixth presidency, something I had never taken the time to count. More than anything, it reminds me that time truly flies when you love the women you serve and believe in the mission.

Our club has endured for seven decades because of the remarkable leaders and members who came before us. I am especially grateful for mentors like Mary Abbott and so many others who dedicated themselves to preserving this legacy.

For me, leadership has never been about a title. It is about honoring our history, investing in our scholarship recipients, supporting our community, and making every member feel seen, valued, and appreciated.

Thank you to everyone who has placed their trust in me over the years. Together, we will continue to serve with grace, dignity, perseverance, and friendship as we build upon the legacy of the La Mirada Ebell Women’s Club.

Here’s to the next chapter and to the generations of women and children we will continue to inspire.
💙✨

Last night, we had the tremendous honor of hearing from Jeanette Jenkins, the first female President of the La Mirada Chamber of Commerce. At 93 years young, she delivered a spirited and inspiring message about the importance of service, leadership, and the need for more people to step forward and make a difference in their communities.

Jeanette shared that she only began slowing down after turning 90, a testament to a lifetime dedicated to giving back. She also spoke proudly of her family, who continue her legacy of community service through organizations such as Relay for Life. Her late husband, Bob Jenkins, was a respected local Realtor and served as President of the Community Services Foundation, further demonstrating their family’s commitment to La Mirada.

It was a privilege to recognize Jeanette with a bouquet of flowers as a small token of our gratitude. We are deeply thankful that she and her daughter, Joyce, joined us for this special evening. Their presence reminded us that true leadership is measured not by titles, but by a lifetime of service and the lives we inspire along the way. Thank you, Jeanette and Joyce, for sharing this memorable celebration with us. Joyce Herbon

Last night was more than a celebration—it was a reminder that service, friendship, and family create a lasting legacy. ❤️

As we celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the La Mirada Ebell Women’s Club, I looked around the room and saw generations of women, community leaders, and loved ones coming together for a greater purpose. My heart is full of gratitude for everyone who showed up, supported our mission, and helped make the evening unforgettable.

Here’s to honoring our past, celebrating the present, and inspiring the future. ✨

✨ Gratitude is the foundation of community. ✨

As we celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the La Mirada Ebell Women’s Club, we are reminded that no great event is accomplished by one organization alone. It is made possible through the generosity, partnership, and shared commitment of businesses, nonprofits, educational institutions, civic leaders, and community organizations who believe in investing in the future.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Festival of Arts/Pageant of the Masters, Phantom Projects Theatre Group, Mr. Rosewood’s Family Restaurant, Misty Cota Real Estate, VFW Post 9148 La Mirada, the VFW Auxiliary, the City of La Mirada, the Norwalk–La Mirada Unified School District, Southern California Edison, and Meals on Wheels for helping make this celebration possible.

Your support honors our 70-year legacy while creating new opportunities for the scholarship students and families we serve. Together, we demonstrate what can happen when a community comes together with purpose, generosity, and heart.

Thank you for believing in our mission and for helping us build a stronger La Mirada for generations to come. 💙✨
