The Filipino Fall Fiesta is coming to Durham, North Carolina

The racquet sports bug is catching on. Come pick up a paddle and discover pickleball with us!

SERVE FOR HOPE is coming to La Mirada, California for a Saturday on the courts with open play for all levels, beginner coaching, snacks, prizes, and plenty of time to rally with friends and family.

Never played pickleball before? No problem. Coaches will be there to help you get started.

Already play pickleball? Bring your paddle and come ready to rally.

And while you discover a new sport, you are supporting Gawad Kalinga’s READ Program, helping children in the Philippines strengthen their reading skills.

Honoring Dr. Carlos Capati and His Living Legacy

On August 26, the groundbreaking of the Capati Productivity Center in Cavite marked the beginning of a new chapter in honoring the legacy of Dr. Carlos Capati, former Chairman of GK USA.

The center is envisioned as a place where knowledge, innovation, and sustainable farming come together to help communities produce food, create opportunities, and strengthen local livelihoods.

It will support the production of high quality seeds and crops, provide training for Community Food Organizers who will help establish community food farms across the Philippines, and create a space where the values Dr. Capati championed through service, learning, and helping others can continue to grow.

GK USA will always be thankful to Dr. Capati for the vision, time, and service he gave to Gawad Kalinga and to the communities he helped along the way. His contributions continue to inspire the work being carried forward today.

As the Capati Productivity Center takes root, may it become a place where his vision continues to guide, inspire, and create opportunities for generations to come.

When "bayanihan" meets farming, something good can grow.

That’s what’s happening at GK Hugo Perez in Cavite.

Gawad Kalinga, SEED Philippines, and AgriGaia Resilient AgriTech 蓋婭智壤科技, have come together to launch the Filipino Formosa Flagship Farm, bringing resilient agriculture and new opportunities to the community.

What excites us most is seeing this become a place where the community can learn, work, and grow together, with the youth taking on a bigger role along the way.

It’s the spirit of "bayanihan" that we love seeing in action.

This is also why GK USA continues to support SEED and Community Food Farms. We believe in creating spaces where communities can find practical ways to provide for themselves, and where young people can step up and lead.

Now we get to watch this farm grow and see what the community does with it.

What does BAYANIHAN mean?

Pronounced bah-yah-nee-hahn, the word Bayanihan comes from bayani, the Filipino word for hero.

But Bayanihan is not about one person being a hero. It is about people coming together, helping one another, and doing their part for the good of the community.

It is the neighbor who lends a hand. The volunteer who gives their time. The donor who makes a contribution. The community that comes together because they believe something better is possible.

That is Bayanihan.

And that spirit is at the heart of GK USA.

A big congratulations to GK RDU, NC on a successful Bowl For A Cause!

Held on August 8, the fundraiser brought together the GK RDU community for an afternoon of bowling and support for Gawad Kalinga.

Special thanks to Stephen and Czar Cariño, and Sonny and Jane De Guzman, who led the organization of the event and made it possible. And to everyone who came out to bowl, support, and help make the fundraiser a success, salamat!

What a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday.

On August 15, Roque Barrido, GK Tampa’s Area Director, celebrated his birthday with the Concert of the Champions for a Cause in Clearwater, Florida. The event brought a great crowd together for an evening of music, fellowship, and help reaise funds to provide homes for the homeless in Ormoc, Leyte supporting the GK Tampa Village 3 Housing Project.

The GK Tampa team went all in to make the night happen, from organizing the concert to pitching in with the food and helping wherever needed. The community responded with the same spirit of generosity, including three pledges to donate a house for the project.

UPDATE as of Aug.19 : We are grateful to share that the event has now reached four house pledges and raised $10,000 in net income for the project.

Behind those numbers are families in Ormoc who are now closer to having a place to call home. What a beautiful result from one night of celebration.

Congratulations to Roque and the entire GK Tampa team on a successful celebration. And thank you to everyone who came, performed, donated, served, and helped make the evening possible.

A game for a home. 🎾🏠🇵🇭

Last weekend, the pickleball community in Washington came together with plenty of energy, friendly competition, and one shared goal: to help make GK Seattle’s first GK Village a reality in Polomolok, South Cotabato.

There were rallies, new faces, good food, warmups, laughs, and a whole lot of pickleball. But beyond the courts, something bigger was taking shape.

Homes for families who need them. A village where they can belong.

This is what happens when a community turns a day of play into something that reaches all the way to the Philippines.

GK USA is proud of GK Seattle for putting this dream in motion, and grateful to everyone who played, donated, encouraged, or helped make the day happen.

The first GK Seattle village is still a dream in progress. But after this weekend, it is a little closer to becoming home.
