Last Saturday, Grace members gathered with our sister congregation, Unidad, for their "Celebrando la Vida" service in preparation for Dia de los Mu***os. It was so beautiful.

Our friends at Unidad have so much to teach us about grief and gratitude held in the very same breath. We came to learn and left more tender, more thankful, and more at home in our own remembering.

Gracias, Unidad, for inviting us to celebrate with you. ❤

Reformation Sunday brought something extraordinarily beautiful to both our worship services.

Our Sanctuary Choir, choir director, and accompanist joined forces with our director for contemporary music for a stunning choral rendition of “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” accompanied by both piano and electric guitar. The entire room was blessed by this beloved hymn, an inspiring musical collaboration, and a whole lot of beauty. ❤️

This is what happens when the gifts of our traditional and contemporary worship communities come together. What a gift to sing, worship, and experience the music of our faith in new ways!

Middle schoolers, meet the labyrinth! 🌀

Last night at The Grove, our 6th-8th graders took time to slow down, walk the labyrinth, and explore finger labyrinths - a way to trace the winding path with a finger - making space for prayer, reflection, and a little holy curiosity.

May you, too, be blessed with a moment to slow down, take a breath, and remember that God walks with you on every step of your life’s path. 💙

On Thursday, Pastor Heidi joined Bishop Erik Christensen, Pastora Maria Rojas of our sister congregation, Unidad, and other faith and civic leaders alongside Congresswoman Delia Ramirez to support the People’s Vision for Immigration Reform—a House resolution calling for expanded pathways to citizenship and humanitarian protections.

This advocacy grows out of our shared faith. Since 1998, the ELCA has called us to accompany immigrants and advocate for just and humane laws. More recently, our church’s social statement on Faith and Civic Life affirmed that pastors are called to speak faithfully on public issues, guided by the teachings we discern together.

At Grace, we believe faith calls us beyond our church walls and into the world that God so loves. We’re grateful to be part of a church body that encourages us to put that faith into action, alongside our neighbors and our partners at Unidad.

When our integrated A/V system went down on Sunday, our incredible A/V team didn’t miss a beat. They immediately got to work setting up our outdoor equipment inside the sanctuary so that everyone could hear, and so that our online community could still join us in worship.

We are so grateful for the skill, flexibility, patience, and good humor of our A/V team! Whether or not you notice them each week, our ministries couldn’t happen without them.

It’s always a good day when the LaGrange Fire Department comes to visit! Grace’s preschoolers have been learning about fire safety this week and loved exploring the truck. And of course, our pastoral team could not resist being part of the excitement.

This may be the least helpful “group photo” ever. 🤣 We had to stand so far back to fit everyone in!

On Sunday, we welcomed 33 new members from 13 families into the life of Grace, including these beloved ones who were part of the welcome liturgy at our outdoor service. Their faces may be hard to see in this picture, but they are already close in our hearts.

Last Saturday, people from across our church denomination’s Metro Chicago Synod gathered to celebrate the installation of our new Bishop, Erik Christensen. Several members of Grace’s Accompanying Immigrants Solidarity Team were invited to serve as greeters and ushers, together with members of our sister congregation, Unidad. What an honor to provide welcome at the installation service as a recognition of the welcome and accompaniment our two congregations offer one another. ¡Gracias a Dios!
