Every March, TBGI promotes physical activity and wellness.

This year we invited Get In Line Dance Co to show us some line dancing moves and put our boots on the ground! We had some parents to join us where we continued to promote healthy living by example. Special thank you to Clockwork Performance Training for always welcoming our group to utilize their facilities.

This month TBGI visited the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. The trip was insightful, informative, evoking, and educational. The Museum covers both domestic and international rights’ issues. All of our girls (and volunteers) walked away feeling empowered that they too can be a part of the change for the future!

To start the new year, for the month of January TBGI young ladies created Vision Frames. We discussed our goals, our dreams, and our ambitions- the mission was to make our vision clear! We met some new members and enjoyed the company of our girlhood. We are looking forward to an amazing year of programming! đź’•

Our December was filled with holiday cheer! We gathered for ice skating at Sweetland Amphitheatre, fellowshipped over food and giggles, and discussed what we were thankful for in 2025. For many young ladies, it was their first time ice skating- what a treat! Thank you to Sweetland on Ice for your hospitality to our young ladies.

For the month of November, TBGI ensures that we take a moment to teach our young ladies about Servant-Leadership. We want to teach them to be leaders that prioritize the needs, growth, and well-being of their communities over their own!
We were grateful to be part of the call to action joining Pay It Forward 2K15 Nonprofit - 501c3 along with other volunteers to perform the 4th Annual Turkey Day Giveaway. We filled bags and serviced close to 200 cars. To see these young ladies, their parents, and our volunteers working hard & feeling fulfilled is the blessing in it all! đź’•

This month, we were grateful to be the guest of Empowher Mentoring, INC. for their Career Forum! Our young ladies were able to interact with a Judge, Realtor, City Councilman, Certified Athletic Trainer, Master Educator of Cosmetology, Professor of Mental Health, Director of Counseling/Career Services, and even a VP of a Bank!

Representation matters, proliferating the idea that truly our young ladies can be anything they truly want to be!

What a way to start our 3rd year of programming!

We welcomed 5 new young ladies to our now 35 participants in our organization. For September’s meeting, we painted memory boxes and inside placed notes to our future selves to encourage & motivate. We ended with wisdom sharing from grade to grade where our older girls shared insight with our younger members for the school year ahead. Lastly, we concluded with our annual “What does being a brown girl mean to you?”; this question opened a world of insights that we will build & grow on throughout our year. 💕

We wrapped up the 2024-2025 TBGI programming year with our 1st Annual Brunching with Brown Girls. Our girls showcased their etiquette skillset in a beautiful setting catered just for them. They were blessed to hear the amazing story and positive speech by Kylah Johnson, the 2025 LaGrange High School Valedictorian. Kylah’s words were inspiring, real, & motivating to our young girls who aspire a similar path as hers. Representation truly matters!

We are grateful to C'sons for being our lovely host for brunch, The Copper Carrot Bakery for the amazing cupcakes, Tiffany Maynard for the elegant decor, and Jennifer Lay for capturing our event through her photography lenses. We are continuing to aim to change lives one year at a time!

Kylah Johnson is the 2025 LaGrange High School Valedictorian and we are over the moon proud of her! She will serve as our guest speaker this month for our 1st Annual Brunching with Brown Girls.

When Kylah Johnson found out she was named LaGrange High School’s 2025 Valedictorian, it was a dream, years in the making, come true. “I was very excited,” Johnson shared. “I’ve been working toward this since elementary school. I even told my aunt that I wanted to be valedictorian. So, I w...

In April, our focus was on the parents of TBGI. Most of our work leans heavily on parent support and continuance of the seeds we are sowing. We were hosted by Jacole Todd, CEO/Founder of Start NOW-a career planning and parental support program- where we discussed various topics focused on our young ladies, but also ways to build a parental network. Thank you to Local Groundz for hosting us!
