Adopt a Golden Knoxville, Inc.

Adopt a Golden Knoxville, Inc. Adopt a Golden Knoxville is a volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to finding warm, loving permanent homes for orphaned Golden Retrievers.

WHO WE ARE---Adopt a Golden Knoxville, Inc. is a group of volunteers who devote our energy and resources to find safe, loving, permanent homes for the dogs that come into our care. We get dogs from owners who, for whatever reasons, are no longer able to care for them and trust us to find their dogs new and loving homes. We get dogs from shelters who contact us to rescue dogs they might otherwise h

ave to euthanize. Very often, these dogs have serious medical problems which we discover after they are examined by the veterinarian and the veterinarian's office is the first place any dog that comes into our care goes. Our adoption fees help to cover the medical expenses that are required for each dog. Often those costs are high--far higher than is covered by our adoption fees. Because of the sometimes dire circumstances these dogs may come from, they have often not had regular and routine veterinary care. We make sure they get it--whether they come in with heartworm, serious dental issues, or tumors. And we make sure they are spayed or neutered. We do not receive government funding as public shelters do, so we must rely on private donations and seek assistance from organizations such as the Golden Retriever Foundation and the Goldstock Fund in order to help as many dogs as possible. We are very grateful to our donors and to these foundations for their support. We are also particularly grateful to those people willing to open their hearts and their homes to foster these dogs until we are able to complete the process of locating loving individuals or families looking for a new (even if the dog they want is a senior) best friend. If you decide to adopt from us, please understand that the application process is designed to assure that this dog never has to again endure whatever circumstance, and some of them are very sad indeed, that brought the dog to us and to assure that the adopters get the dog that will meet the need that brought them to us. In addition to providing those services, Adopt a Golden Knoxville is intent on educating and assisting the metropolitan Knoxville and East Tennessee general public, and dog owners specifically, regarding issues such as responsible pet ownership, spay/neutering, obedience training, and veterinary/specialists referrals. Our goal is to reduce the number of Golden Retrievers sent to shelters. THANK YOU from them and from us!!

We need your help to find a special family for a special girl. Meet Rikka, a 13 year old, lab mix, weighing in at 50lbs.

šŸŽ¾Rikka was adopted as a puppy but unfortunately has come back and needs a new family.
šŸŽ¾Rikka is very sweet and gets along well with other dogs. She would do best in a home with no small children, they make her nervous, but older kids are fine.
šŸŽ¾Rikka needs a home with a fenced in yard and limited steps. She loves walking around the yard.
šŸŽ¾Rikka rides well in the car, walks well on the leash, is potty trained and will go to the door if she needs to potty.
šŸŽ¾Rikka doesn’t need to be crated and can be trusted out in the home. She will happily sleep anywhere. Rikka loves food and toys.
šŸŽ¾Rikka’s foster family says she’s ā€œjust perfectā€ and whoever adopts her will be incredibly lucky.
šŸŽ¾Rikka does have a slightly unusual look to her face. She was born that way and we think it’s quite cute on her.
šŸŽ¾Sweet Rikka doesn’t need much, just a soft place to land for her remaining time. She’s in great health for her age and has an enormous amount of love to give.

If you are that special person willing to take Rikka into your heart and you home, please fill out an adoption application on our website www.adoptagoldenknoxville.org.

Exciting News, the Tennessee General Assembly has approved an automobile Specialty Plate proposed by Adopt A Golden Knoxville. A portion of every plate ordered will support Adopt A Golden Knoxville OR ANY TENNESSEE RESCUE OF YOUR CHOICE.

You have the opportunity to pre-order a plate for your vehicle. Production of the plate will begin once the State of Tennessee receives 1,000 pre-orders.

We are required by the State to obtain the 1,000 pre-orders at $35.00 each. That fee will be applied to your total cost when you receive your plate from the State. There is a $2.00 fee per plate to cover service charge and transaction fees incurred by AGK.

Pre-orders will close once 1,000 registrations have been received. AGK will send this pre-order information to the State, which begins the 4-6 months production period. The State will notify you when your plate is ready for pick up at your County Court Clerk’s office.

What happens if we don’t get 1,000 registrations? Your registration fee will be considered a donation.

So go out to the Adopt A Golden Knoxville website, scroll to the bottom, click on ORDER TAG, and pre-register for your tag today. Here is the link: https://www.adoptagoldenknoxville.org/home/lend-a-paw/tn-specialty-tag/
(QR code in the comments)

Then…spread the news. Tell your family and friends about this opportunity so we can get the 1,000 pre-orders.

Are you interested in adopting? Fostering or volunteering? Would you just like to come meet some of our available dogs or talk to our volunteers in person? We’ll come to our July meet and greet Saturday 7-11-26 from 11-1 at The Zoom Room.

We will announce which available dogs will be attending the week of the event.

āļøAs a reminder, we DO NOT adopt dogs out at this event, it’s just an opportunity to come meet them in person.

āļøWe don’t recommend bringing your own dog to this event. If there is a dog that is a good fit for your family, we can arrange a private meet and greet in a less stressful environment.

āļøIf you stop by to say hi, please remember some of our dogs are shy and be patient and gentle with them. Meeting a bunch of new people can be scary for some dogs.

From surviving on the streets, never knowing where his next meal would come, if he’d be safe, if he’d have shelter from severe weather, to now being wrapped in love, warmth and security, Ben’s story is nothing short of incredible. And now, we need to find him his forever family.

šŸŽ¾Ben is approximately 3 years old and weighs 55lbs. He is calm, loving, and incredibly sweet.

šŸŽ¾Ben gets along well with other dogs and children. He hasn’t been around cats while in our care but we feel pretty confident he would do fine. Ben loves everyone!

šŸŽ¾Ben is calm and listens very well. However once he’s finished with heartworm treatment we expect he will have more energy. He learned his first command ā€œsitā€ in one day!

šŸŽ¾ Ben walks well on a leash and has good manners. He is easily redirected when told ā€œnoā€. He doesn’t require a crate and is pretty much potty trained. He’s only had a few accidents and that’s when he’s gone too long without a potty break.

šŸŽ¾ Ben has spent his entire life as a stray and now we are ready for the next chapter in his life, Ben the family dog!

ā¤ļøIf you think Ben is a good fit for your family, please fill out an adoption application on our website, www.adoptagoldenknoxville.org.

Last month AGK took in 5, 6 month old purebred golden puppies. These puppies are under socialized and require very special adopters.

We are so excited to share that Phoenix has been adopted! His mom and dad are multiple AGK adopters and are experienced with rescue dogs. They are retired and plan to devote plenty of time to helping Phoenix gain confidence and learn humans aren’t so scary.

As always, we’d like to thank Phoenix’s foster family and the countless volunteers who make each and every adoption possible. Oh happy day!!

We’ve told you about the 5 male puppies we rescued last month. Unfortunately they received very little socialization before coming to us, which left them incredibly shy and fearful.

Over the the last month they’ve gained confidence, little by little. 4 of the 5 brothers have been adopted! Big Sky, the most fearful of the group, is still looking for a family. But check out this video of him playing with his foster brother!! We are so proud of the progress he’s making!!!

šŸŽ¾ Big Sky needs to go to a dog savvy adopter with a physical fenced in yard. He needs another confident, well socialized dog in the home to be their mentor and friend.

šŸŽ¾He will do best in a home with no small children, older children who are able to understand they are fearful and need patience are ok.

šŸŽ¾ Big Sky is absolutely terrified of crates and can’t be crated safely at this time. Because of this he needs adopters with a flexible schedule so he isn’t left home alone for long periods of time and adopters within 200 miles of Knoxville.

šŸŽ¾We are looking for a loving, caring, patient adopter to help Big Sky learn humans aren’t so scary and he is safe and loved. Big Sky has a cyst on his back removed. It’s nothing serious and should be healed up soon but he is wearing a shirt to keep him from accidentally rubbing his stitches.

If you think Big Sky would be a good fit for your family, please fill out an adoption application on our website, www.adoptagoldenknoxville.org.

Did you get to meet Coleman and Gypsy at Goldens in the Park last week?? They are ready for adoption! Coleman was having such a wonderful time, he briefly lost control of his tongue. šŸ˜‚

šŸŽ¾Coleman is a purebred lab, 8 years old, and Gypsy is a purebred Golden, 7 years old.
šŸŽ¾They came to AGK after their owner sadly passed away.
šŸŽ¾They are sweet, friendly dogs, good with people and other dogs. They are housebroken and good on a leash.
šŸŽ¾We are determined to adopt them out as a pair since they lived together their entire lives and are best buddies.

It’s harder to find adopters for older dogs. It’s harder to find adopters for bonded pairs, but we know there is a special family out there who will take both. Will you help us find them?

If you are interested in adopting Coleman and Gypsy, please fill out an adoption application on our website, www.adoptagoldenknoxville.org.

We are so excited to share that Denver has been adopted. His new parents both work from home and they have 2 friendly dogs. This is just the perfect environment for a dog like Denver to gain confidence and learn the world isn’t so scary. And his new name will be Zamboni!

As always, we’d like to extend a very special thank you to the countless volunteers who make each and every adoption possible. Oh happy day!
