Join MORAES, Debris Free Oceans, & Earth Breeze for a spook-tacular afternoon at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park!

We’ll be spending the afternoon helping keep our coastlines clean, learning more about our local environment, and giving old Halloween costumes a second life.

We'll be starting off the event with a beach cleanup (volunteer service hours provided) followed by a guided eco walk. We'll finish off the fun with a Halloween costume swap, so make sure to bring a gently used costume or accessory to swap!

We're gearing up for this year’s Kickball for a Cause Tournament!

If you're not a player but still looking to get involved, there are plenty of opportunities for you!

11 AM: We’ll be starting off with a beach cleanup at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park.

12 PM: Stick around for a historical tour led by representatives from Historic Virginia Key Beach Park and learn more about this beautiful and important piece of Miami’s history.

1 PM: Come hang out, cheer on your favorite nonprofit, and enjoy an afternoon of kickball for a cause.

Thank you to everyone who came out for the 41st International Coastal Cleanup!

We spent the morning at Darwin Beach working alongside our amazing volunteers to help keep our educational trail clean and healthy. Together, we removed 94 pounds of marine debris from the beach, along with an extensive amount of invasive vegetation, including beachside mahoe, latherleaf, and three Australian pines.

We're so grateful to be a part of this event and to be able to make a huge impact alongside the other South Florida cleanup sites. This year was a huge success, and we are already looking forward to next year's ICC!

Another productive Flip the Switch cleanup!

We are so grateful to Loews Hotel and Miami Beach Rising Above for collaborating with us, and to all our fantastic volunteers. We couldn't have done this without their hard work!

We collected roughly 30 pounds of marine debris this time, consisting mostly of microplastics. As always, we were so happy to teach about the everyday actions everyone can apply to make a hatchlings journey a little easier.

This Saturday, September 19, is the 41st International Coastal Cleanup!

We’ll be joining volunteers across Miami-Dade and around the world to help protect our coastlines and make a difference in our local ecosystem. Our group at Darwin Beach will not only be focusing on picking up trash, removing invasive species as well. Doing so will allow native plants to reclaim their habitat and restore the natural ecosystem.

Cleanup supplies will be provided, and community service hours are available! Just bring a reusable water bottle, wear closed-toe shoes, and come prepared for the weather.

In 2025, the MORAES team traveled alongside Dr. Trone of Valencia College for more than a week long adventure on the Amazon River with the goal of establishing benchmark morphometric data for the critically endangered Amazon River dolphin, locally known as bufeos.

In collaboration with The Morpho Institute, our team spent 10 days on the river using drone surveys and hydrophones to study these elusive dolphins and collect valuable data.

We are honored to have played a role in collecting data that can help raise awareness and support conservation efforts for these incredible species. Thank you to Valencia College and The Morpho Institute for making this unforgettable trip possible!

Join us alongside Miami Beach Rising Above and Loews Hotels for our next Flip the Switch Sea Turtle Beach Cleanup on Tuesday, September 15, from 5:30–7:30 PM at 24th Street Beach!

Learn about Florida’s sea turtle nesting season, discover how nests are protected, and make a direct impact by helping remove harmful marine debris from our shoreline. This event offers a hands-on opportunity to make an impact alongside other passionate volunteers. Every piece of trash picked up makes a difference!
