Why did we start the Hero’s Ruck?

We wanted to help support our Veterans dealing with PTSD and help in anyway to combat the epidemic of Veteran su***de.

We then made the decision to expand this program to first responders knowing many first responders are military veterans and first responders also deal with PTSD at a high rate.

We also wanted an event to engage all veterans but especially our GWOT Veterans and help them find a community of local Veterans from all eras dedicated to supporting each other!

Now in our fourth year, we provided hundreds of companion animals to local Veterans free of charge, collected thousands of dollars worth of pet supplies donated to the Portage Animal Protective League, and we are now expanding into training for support dogs as well as Veterinary care support.

And maybe most importantly, our Hero’s Ruck annual event has brought our community together in a positive supportive environment!

Can’t wait to see everyone at the 2026 Hero’s Ruck!!
