Over the weekend, TradesUp attended Springfield Armory National Historic Site’s Forging Freedom event! It was a great day introducing young people to hands-on work, tools, and the skills behind the trades.

We also had the chance to see the sledge TradesUp built in partnership with Springfield Armory last year. The project was created in recognition of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution and Henry Knox’s historic transport of artillery during the Revolutionary War.

Thank you to Springfield Armory for having us and for another great day of hands-on learning and history!

Two months until SPARK Kent!

SPARK has become a fall tradition, bringing together hundreds of young people for a day of hands-on learning, creativity, and exploration. With the help of skilled Presenters, kids have the chance to try something new, work with their hands, and discover the many possibilities within the trades.

As we get closer to this year’s event, we’re looking for supporters to help make it all possible. Whether you help cover Presenter costs, partner with us as a business, or contribute an in-kind donation, your support helps us keep SPARK safe, inspiring, and free for everyone who attends.

‼️ Donations made by September 25 will be recognized at the event! ‼️

Do you have a skill, trade, or craft you’re passionate about?

We’re looking for presenters to join us at this year’s SPARK Kent! Whether you’re a carpenter, electrician, welder, plumber, mason, mechanic, or work in another hands-on field, we’d love to have you share what you do with the next generation.

By offering a simple, interactive activity or demonstration, you can help young people discover new skills, build confidence, and experience the satisfaction of learning by doing.

SPARK Kent is taking place on October 24th from 10 am to 4 pm at the Eric Sloane Museum and CT Antique Machinery Association in Kent, CT.

Interested in getting involved? We’d love to hear from you. Visit the link in our bio to learn more and apply!

Over the weekend, TradesUp hosted an Intro to Plumbing Workshop at the Eric Sloane Museum, where students had the opportunity to learn the basics of plumbing and try their hand at soldering pipes.

We had an incredible turnout, and it was amazing to see so many young people eager to learn a new trade. A huge thank you to Drake from Marbledale Plumbing for sharing his expertise and leading such a hands-on, engaging workshop.
