A number of Kent's peer towns have had great success creating affordable homeownership opportunities. KAH created one in the 1990s - and we'd love to do so again.

Connecticut is one of only 3 states losing housing per capita since 2020. While areas where new construction has outpaced population growth have seen housing costs drop - up to 20% in some areas - housing costs in CT continue to rise.

Fewer homes means more competition, higher prices, and harder choices for the families and workers who make our community run.

CT, NJ and RI are only states that lost housing per capita since 2020. Others have built more than enough to account for population growth.

We mourn the loss of founding board member, Gregg Sheridan, who energetically and enthusiastically served on the KAH board since 1990, and who had just signed on for another term. A warm and generous presence, Gregg was often by our side at community events and worked especially closely with the residents of Stuart Farm. He will be greatly missed.

And Happy Earth Day from Kent Affordable Housing! 🌿

We're proud to partner with the Kent Land Trust and share a belief that healthy communities need both open space and homes people can afford — and that these goals support each other.

That's the heart of the Northwest Connecticut Affordable Housing + Conservation Collaboration, a regional effort bringing together housing and conservation organizations across NW Connecticut towns to develop real strategies for pursuing both goals together.

Would you be interested in renting out a bedroom in your home? Would you be interested in renting a bedroom in someone's home? A bill to allow it by right in CT passed the State Senate with bipartisan support.

The latest data shows there are 90 homeowner households in Kent paying 50% or more of their income in housing. Renting a bedroom could be a good way to help make ends meet - and provide much needed housing.

The rooms could be rented “as of right” without notifying local authorities about new tenants moving into neighborhoods normally occupied by one family per home.
