Chester County isn’t just part of the mushroom industry, it is the mushroom industry.
At the heart of it all is Kennett Square, known as the Mushroom Capital of the World.

This small town in Pennsylvania has been tied to mushroom farming since the late 1800s, when growers first discovered they could cultivate mushrooms in the cool, dark spaces beneath their flower beds. What started as a simple experiment turned into a lasting agricultural legacy.

Today, this region produces a significant portion of the mushrooms consumed across the United States. From grocery stores to restaurants nationwide, so much of what ends up on the table traces back to these local farms.

It’s a rare kind of industry, tight-knit, family-run, and deeply rooted in tradition. Dozens of farms operate side by side, quietly keeping a national food supply moving from right here in Chester County.

There’s history in every harvest.

The work starts long before the gates ever open.
Right now, it’s meetings, notes, timelines, vendor coordination, sponsorships coordination, kids area activities, contest planning, grant recipients, car show organizations, public safety, vendor tent security, parking, shuttles, and a whole lot of planning that most people never see, but it’s what makes the day feel effortless when it finally arrives.
Every detail matters. From layout and logistics to the experience we want guests to walk away with, this is where the foundation gets built.
We’re already shaping what this year’s Mushroom Festival will look and feel like, and there’s a lot more to come as everything comes together.
Stay tuned, this is just the beginning.

🇺🇸 Memorial Day 🇺🇸

Memorial Day is a time of remembrance.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the reason for the freedoms we live with every day.

As we gather with family and friends this weekend, we encourage everyone to take a moment of reflection, not just celebration, to recognize the cost of that freedom.

From all of us at The Mushroom Festival, we are grateful, we remember, and we honor.

There’s nothing better than seeing the impact come full circle.

On May 12th, The Mushroom Festival proudly hosted our annual Grant Dinner honoring this year’s grant recipients. The evening was held at the wonderful Italian American Club right here in Kennett Square.
Each year, the Festival raises funds that are poured right back into our community, supporting local nonprofits, emergency services, youth programs, and organizations that make a real difference every single day. The Grant Dinner is where that hard work becomes tangible, as recipients receive their checks and we celebrate the partnerships that keep our town strong.

It was a special evening filled with gratitude, handshakes, and a shared commitment to growing together for generations.

To our grant recipients: thank you for the work you do. We are proud to support you.

The Mushroom Festival exists to celebrate something that has shaped our region for generations, the mushroom industry and the people behind it.

Rooted in Kennett Square and reaching throughout Chester County and beyond, the Festival is built on three core goals:
• Promoting mushrooms and local agriculture
• Educating consumers on health benefits and uses
• Supporting local tourism and community connection

Even more importantly, the Festival celebrates the KSQ community while giving back proceeds to help fund local and regional nonprofit organizations that serve our neighbors year-round.

At its heart, this is more than an event. It’s a tradition of community, generosity, and pride in where we come from. 💚
