December is Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) Awareness Month. As the days get shorter and sunlight becomes limited, many people begin to feel a noticeable shift in their mood and energy. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a form of depression that typically appears during the fall and winter months and lifts as spring approaches.
MYC Youth Coalitions are taking action; throughout December, MYC Youth Coalitions will be actively educating their student bodies by sharing resources, distributing Pocket Pals, hosting tabling events, and raising awareness about SAD. Their efforts aim to ensure students feel supported, informed, and empowered during the darker months.
Let’s use this month to raise awareness, support one another, and shine a little extra light where it’s needed most.

For the month of November, MYC partnered with our school community to deliver Teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA) to 16 students during six iTime sessions.
This voluntary course gave teens the opportunity to learn how to recognize signs of mental health challenges—including depression, anxiety, and substance use—and how to support a friend who may be struggling.
Many young people face these challenges silently, often feeling isolated or unsure of where to turn. With su***de now the second leading cause of death among youth, empowering teens with knowledge and skills is more important than ever.
tMHFA is an evidence-based program that helps students build a strong peer-support network, encourages help-seeking, and provides a hopeful path forward. We’re proud of the students who participated and invested in creating a safer, more supportive school community.
