Harbor House is heartbroken by the tragic loss of Anne Reilly, a longtime nurse, professor, and member of our community. Our hearts are with her family, friends, colleagues, students, and all those who are struggling to make sense of this devastating loss.
When a tragedy like this touches our community, it is difficult to find words that feel sufficient. We mourn the life that was lost and recognize the many people whose lives have been forever changed by this heartbreak.
This tragedy is also a painful reminder that domestic violence can affect anyone, regardless of their profession, background, or circumstances. Abuse does not always look the way we expect, and the struggles someone may be facing behind closed doors are not always visible to those around them. People we know, work alongside, learn from, and care about may be carrying pain we never see. For many, that suffering remains hidden, even from the people closest to them.
As a community, we are left grieving, reflecting, and wishing that no one had to experience such profound loss in moments like these; compassion matters. We can give one another space to grieve, offer kindness without judgment, and remember that we may never fully know what someone else is going through.
