Parades In Kona

Parades In Kona The Kailua Village Parade Committee is a volunteer group building community through parades. Parades are for everyone! Sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Kona.

We encourage everyone to participate as a volunteer, donor, participant and or spectator. Enjoy one of the best parades in town. Our Annual Independence Day parade is on 4th of July and is concluded with a fantastic fireworks show over the Kailua Kona Bay area. Our Annual Christmas parade is enjoyed by thousands and includes a visit by Santa himself every 2nd Saturday in December.

Ho Ho Ho! The 2026 Kailua Village Christmas Parade is set for Saturday, December 12! Entry forms will be available soon.

Independence Day Parade and Fireworks Mahalo

It truly takes a village to put on an Independence Day Parade and Fireworks Extravaganza in Historic Kailua Village.

Start with 12 dedicated community volunteers on the Kailua Village Parade Committee. Consult with Parade advisor Barbara Kossow (she ran the parade for 25+ years) to make sure we don’t forget anything.

Loop in Kailua Village Business Improvement District as a fiscal sponsor.

Consult with Hawaii County Police Department and Community Police. Apply for permits to close the roads safely and securely. Add liability insurance to the mix. Solicit parade entries. Add more volunteers for registration, security, parade monitors and announcers.

Did we mention that Kealakehe Intermediate and High School students volunteered to provide photography? Thank you Yonathan with the Luana Hospitality Group for creating the parade’s YouTube channel and live streaming directly to the America250.org site too.

We met with Hawaii Explosives & Pyrotechnics, Inc. and requested a fantastic fireworks display over Kailua Bay.

Fireworks cost? $65,000.

The County of Hawaii chipped in $20,000 for the fireworks. That was a start but we had a long way to go. Parade Committee volunteers began the tedious process of calling their friends and business contacts to raise the remaining $45,000. It was touch and go but we were successful. Thank you for all the donations big and small. We absolutely could not have put on the fireworks show without your help.

We would be remiss in not honoring and thanking Parade Grand Marshals Tom Greenwell and the Greenwell ohana.

Historic Kailua Village celebrated America250 in style.
