A Life Saving Legacy...

In 2000, Ann Smith, an energetic and vivacious woman of the Johnstown area was diagnosed with Stage IV ovarian cancer at just 50 years of age. She was devoted to teaching for 26 years and had recently retired. For years, she was an avid runner and exercised everyday. But she recognized a slight change that wasn't normal for her. A little added weight, some abdominal pain and stomach discomfort. It wasn't just because she was getting a little older. It was her body telling her something.

Shortly after her diagnosis, Ann and her family created the Ann Harris Smith Foundation. She wanted women and their families throughout our community to be educated about this silent disease so that they wouldn't ever have to go through what she had experienced. Ann lost her valiant fight against ovarian cancer in 2002.

Her unwavering commitment to helping others learn about ovarian cancer lives on, stronger today than ever. 🩵

What a wonderful way to kick off September! 📚💙

We had a blast delivering books and reading to the kids at Shanksville Elementary School today!

Ann was a kindergarten teacher with a true love for teaching and a passion for early childhood education. With the help of family and friends, we created The Color Rap Book using the rhymes Ann shared in her classroom. 💙

🐾✨ 𝙈𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙊𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝘼𝙣𝙣! ✨🐾

Today was a truly special day at Richland Elementary as we joined students, staff, and community members to welcome Olive Ann, Richland School District’s very first therapy dog!

Olive Ann will bring comfort, connection, and emotional support to students throughout the school day. Her name carries even deeper meaning - “Ann” is a tribute to the late Ann Harris Smith, whose passion for early childhood education continues to inspire everything we do.

We are incredibly honored to have Ann’s legacy live on through Olive Ann, whose presence will make school days brighter and kinder for so many children.

We are proud to support the new school resource initiative at Richland Elementary. Thank you again for the opportunity to be a part of this special program.
