Pennsylvania is helping advance the future of regional air travel.

The FAA, PennDOT, NJDOT, and Electra are conducting hybrid-electric flight demonstrations designed to explore connections between smaller community airports and major airline hubs. The flights include stops at Northeast Philadelphia Airport and Philadelphia International Airport, helping gather critical data for the safe integration of Advanced Air Mobility aircraft.

For Aerium, initiatives like this highlight the important role innovation, collaboration, and workforce development will play in building a more accessible and connected aviation system.

A major investment is helping agricultural drone technology take flight across western Pennsylvania.

Aerial Applications, an Aerium partner company, has received a $310,000 Pennsylvania Agricultural Innovation Grant—one of the largest awards made through this year’s program. The funding will help the Davidsville-based company expand its agricultural drone spraying and mapping services throughout Armstrong, Cambria, Clearfield, Indiana, and Somerset counties.

Founded by Nathaniel Denault, who also serves as Aerium’s Administrator and Drone Curriculum Developer, Aerial Applications has experienced remarkable growth. What began with drone applications on a local farm has developed into an operation employing nine pilots and serving more than 300 clients across 11 counties during its March-to-October season.

The company uses drone technology to provide farmers and property owners with services including:

• Aerial spraying
• Cover crop seeding
• Granular product application
• Field perimeter mapping
• NDVI mapping to measure plant health

The grant will allow Aerial Applications to invest in additional drones and equipment, increase its capacity, and respond to the growing demand for precision-agriculture services.

Drone technology is particularly valuable across western Pennsylvania, where steep terrain can be difficult for traditional ground equipment to navigate. By bringing specialized equipment, trained pilots, and regulatory expertise directly to farmers, Aerial Applications is making advanced agricultural technology more accessible and practical.

This investment is an exciting example of how aviation, agriculture, education, and entrepreneurship can work together to solve real-world challenges. Aerium is proud to partner with Aerial Applications and to have Nathaniel helping develop the drone curriculum that prepares students and educators to participate in the growing UAS industry.

Congratulations to Nathaniel and the entire Aerial Applications team on this well-deserved recognition and the next chapter of their growth!

Building the Workforce That Keeps Aviation Moving!

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is expanding facilities maintenance training for more than 500 maintenance technicians, helping employees strengthen skills in areas including HVAC, electrical safety, building automation systems, pumps, boilers, OSHA requirements, and more.

This investment highlights an important reality across aviation: a strong industry depends on a skilled, prepared workforce at every level.

At Aerium, workforce development is a key part of strengthening the future of aviation. Creating opportunities for education, hands-on training, and professional growth helps ensure that airports and aviation organizations have the talent they need to operate safely, efficiently, and successfully for years to come.

PHL’s initiative is another great example of how investing in people is an investment in the future of aviation.
