What an extraordinary evening celebrating 18 years of PJ Library in Philadelphia and the story of Jewish Learning Venture.

Our Celebration was one of the most joyful and well-attended in JLV history — a room filled with longtime supporters, new faces, powerful stories, and deep connection. We were especially honored to welcome Pennsylvania First Lady Lori Shapiro, who reflected on her family’s own jkidphilly journey.

Throughout the evening, we heard story after story about the impact of PJ Library and jkidphilly. Again and again, we were reminded that these books are never just books. They are doorways to connection, identity, community, and Jewish life.

Todah rabah to our event chairs, honorary chairs, partners at the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, our Honorary Committee, and the incredible JLV staff for making this evening possible.

Here’s to 18 years of stories and to all the stories still waiting to be written.

Jewish identity has never looked just one way.

As we near the end of Jewish American Heritage Month - alongside Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month - we’re creating space for stories, identities, and experiences that deserve to be seen, heard, and honored.

Join jkidphilly and the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History on May 31 for an interactive adult-only workshop with award-winning educator and "What Jewish Looks Like" co-author Liz Kleinrock.

Together, we’ll explore identity, belonging, representation, and the many ways Jewishness is lived and understood today, especially in the JoC community.

🗓 May 31
🕐 1:00–2:30 PM
📍 Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History

✨ The first 100 registrants will receive a free copy of "What Jewish Looks Like."

If you’ve been craving meaningful conversation, deeper connection, and a more expansive understanding of Jewish community, we hope you’ll join us.

You thought we were done?!

For our 19th installment of 18 Years of PJ Library in 18 Days, we’re turning the spotlight toward someone whose passion for PJ Library has helped shape so many meaningful moments for families across our community: Robyn Cohen, Managing Director of PJ Library Philadelphia.

And in perhaps the least surprising reveal ever…Robyn simply cannot choose just ONE favorite PJ Library book.

Instead, she shares a handful of stories she loves - books filled with warmth, curiosity, Jewish joy, and the kinds of connections that stay with families long after story time ends.

But more than any single title, what shines through is Robyn’s infectious excitement for the program itself: the belief that books can spark conversations, strengthen identity, and help families create Jewish moments that feel authentic and joyful.

After 18 years, that enthusiasm is still contagious, and we’re so grateful for the energy, heart, and vision she brings to PJ Library every single day.

Thank you, Robyn, for helping so many families fall in love with Jewish stories!

FINAL DAY OF 18 Years of PJ Library in 18 Days!!!

For our final installment, we’re celebrating Elizabeth (Liza for short), whose favorite PJ Library book has stayed with her far beyond childhood.

She fell in love with the story of a young girl journeying from Russia to the United States, facing challenge after challenge with courage, determination, and resilience. Elizabeth connected deeply with the character’s strength and perseverance, and the story became more than just a favorite PJ Library book - it became her favorite book from her entire childhood.

That’s the magic of PJ Library. Sometimes a book arrives in your mailbox at just the right moment and stays with you for years, helping shape the way you see yourself, others, and the world around you.

Thank you for celebrating 18 years of PJ Library in Philadelphia with all of us at Jewish Learning Venture - and for sharing the books, memories, traditions, and moments of connection that make this community so special.

Will we see you at Celebration???

Day 17 of 18 Years of PJ Library in 18 Days

Today we meet Asher + Purple - two readers whose favorite PJ Library books sparked passions in very different ways.

Asher loves historical fiction and baseball stories, the kind that transport you to another time while reminding you how powerful courage, teamwork, and perseverance can be. PJ Library helped bring history to life through the lens of something he already loved.

And Purple? She was so inspired by one of her PJ Library books that she decided to start a business of her own. Proof that stories don’t just entertain - they ignite imagination, confidence, and big ideas.

For 18 years, PJ Library has helped children discover who they are, what they love, and what’s possible.

Stay tuned as we continue celebrating 18 years of stories, sparks, and connection.
ONLY ONE DAY LEFT!!!

Day 16 of 18 Years of PJ Library in 18 Days!

Today, we meet Maddie, whose favorite PJ Library book combines some of her very favorite things: sports, friendship, and the subjects she loves most. ⚽📚✨

One of the beautiful things about PJ Library is that children don’t just learn from these stories — they see themselves in them. Whether it’s a shared hobby, a familiar feeling, or characters who care about the same things they do, those moments of connection can turn a book into their book.

For 18 years, PJ Library has helped children across Greater Philadelphia discover stories that reflect who they are and what they love. Thank you, Maddie, for reminding us how meaningful it is when kids can find themselves in the pages of a story.

Not every PJ Library connection has to be a big, life-changing moment. Sometimes it’s something wonderfully small…like realizing you and a character both procrastinate.

On Day 15 of 18 Years of PJ Library in 18 Days, we meet Silvie, whose favorite PJ Library book made her feel seen in the tiniest, most ordinary way. And that’s the magic of stories: even small moments of recognition can stay with us for years.

Because when children see themselves reflected in books - their quirks, habits, worries, humor, and humanity - they learn that who they are belongs in the story, too.

Day 14 of 18 Years of PJ Library in 18 Days!!!

Meet Ori - whose own story might be one of the most “PJ Library” stories ever.

His parents loved a character from a PJ Library book so much, they chose his name because of it. 🥹

Think about that for a second: a story arriving in the mail each month became part of this child’s identity forever.

That’s the magic of PJ Library. These books don’t just live on shelves. They become bedtime rituals, family conversations, favorite memories - and sometimes even baby names.

For 18 years, PJ Library has helped Jewish families in Greater Philadelphia build connection, tradition, and belonging one story at a time. And thanks to Jewish Learning Venture, families receive these books completely free of charge.

Happy Day 14… and thank you, Ori, for reminding us how powerful stories can be.

Day 13 of 18 Years of PJ Library in 18 Days!!!

Meet Rachel, whose favorite PJ Library book introduced her to the story of Anne Frank and inspired her to visit The Anne Frank House herself with her family.

One of the most remarkable parts of growing up with PJ Library is watching how children connect with stories at different stages of life. What begins as curiosity about a character or a book can grow into a deeper understanding of history, identity, empathy, and the wider world around them.

These books do more than fill bookshelves. They spark questions, inspire journeys, and help young readers discover meaningful connections that stay with them far beyond story time.
