Congratulations, Class of 2026! 🎓

This is a moment to celebrate everything you’ve accomplished and everything that's ahead.

Our team is having a great time at the Commonwealth Prevention Alliance's Annual PA Prevention Conference!

Nothing happened...

Because people keep showing up, learning, and doing the work to invest in futures that may never need to be rebuilt.

Including creating catchy tunes to encourage youth not to v**e, smoke, or drink underage! 🦆

If substances are offered to you, you always have the right to say no, but we know that can sometimes feel awkward in the moment.

Not sure what to say? Try this:
✔ “I’m good.”
✔ “Not my thing.”
✔ Change the subject.
✔ Blame something else (practice, family, etc.).

Having a plan makes it easier to stick to your choices.

💡 Find more tips on how to say no from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) here: https://teens.drugabuse.gov

Most teens are not using substances regularly.

“Everyone’s doing it” is one of the biggest myths out there. And it's an important one to debunk because, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), early substance use, especially while the brain is still developing, increases the risk of addiction later in life.

Protecting your future means making healthy decisions now.

👏 Another amazing Student Volunteer Opportunities Fair in the books! 👏

We held the fair to give CSD Cheltenham High School students the chance to:
🤝Connect with local organizations
💙Learn about what they do
🧡Get information about potential volunteer opportunities

We think it's important to give teens the chance to be involved with the community, especially as they start to look for ways to spend their time over the summer.

A special shoutout to our partners who came with volunteer opportunities for the students:
Cheltenham Fire Company
Cheltenham Area Branch NAACP
Cheltenham Township's Emergency Medical Services
Civil Air Patrol
Elkins Park Fire Company
Elkins Park Library
Glenside Fire Company
La Mott Fire Company
Pennsylvania National Guard's Counterdrug Joint Task Force
Peer Support and Teen Talk Lines

And thank you to our Board Member, Lynore, for coordinating the event and to Cheltenham High School for hosting us! We couldn't have done this without everyone's support!

Boredom isn’t harmless. It can lead to risky choices.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), studies link unstructured, unsupervised time with higher chances of teen substance use.

Teens should try this instead:
☀️ Get outside
🎨 Start something creative
👯 Make plans with friends
🎧 Dive into music or content creation

Boredom doesn’t have to be risky.

We are so grateful for the support we received for Youth Ignite To Shine A Light On Prevention!

So many people were involved in making the day a success. The CSD Cheltenham High School choir sang beautifully, Sterlen Barr Sr. and Rapping About Prevention brought so much energy in an engaging yet educational performance, Shelby the Therapy Dog stole our hearts, and our partners, including the Pennsylvania National Guard's Counterdrug Joint Task Force, Glenside Fire Company, Access Services, Inc., Child and Family Focus Inc., Elkins Park Fire Company, Cheltenham Fire Company, Montgomery County Alliance for Prevention - MAP, Family Services of Montgomery County, and Nurse Educator Kim Williams, provided vital health and wellness information.

Our goal was to hold an event for our community that was entertaining, uplifting, and showcased the importance of substance use prevention. We couldn't have done it without our incredible team, partners, and everyone who attended. We're looking forward to many more chances to connect with our Cheltenham neighbors! 💙💛
