Recently, Main Street Iowa looked back at 40 years of Main Street and it's impact on communities. Jefferson was chosen as one of the 5 case studies of success.
Public art, and the impact of the art in combination with creative placemaking, has been a driver of our success in downtown and one of the reasons Jefferson was chosen as a Great American Main Street in 2025.

October is National Arts and Humanities Month 2026! 🎨

The arts are such an important part of what makes Jefferson special—and they deserve our support! They bring people together, tell our stories, create community pride, attract visitors, support our local businesses, and help make Jefferson a place people want to live, work and visit.

These are just a few of the many reasons the arts matter in Jefferson.

So as you head to the polls this November—and really, anytime you vote, including at the local level—remember to pay attention to where candidates stand on supporting the arts. The decisions made by our elected officials can have a real impact on whether arts, culture and creativity continue to grow in our community.

If we want the arts to remain an important part of Jefferson’s future, we all have a role in supporting them.
