Meet LOKI 🐾

Loki is an 8-pound, 2-year-old Yorkie/Poodle mix (our best guess) with the most unique coat ever. It reminds me of a ‘70s s**g carpet.

Loki was found as a stray and taken to ACPS, where no one came looking for him. His finders completed a home stray hold and adopted him, but soon realized he needed more than they could give with busy work schedules and health issues. Eventually, Loki found himself on a rehoming page.

With that adorable face, plenty of people wanted him, but I’m grateful they chose rescue instead so we can advocate for Loki and find the committed family he deserves—his FINAL FUREVER HOME.

Loki is adorable, spunky, energetic, loves playing with every dog in the program, loves his people (he’s a bit of an attention hog 😉), and is an all-around fantastic little pup.

Now… here’s where Loki needs his person.

Loki is NOT housetrained, and some dogs simply take longer to learn. If I were a betting woman, I’d say this is a big reason he keeps finding himself needing a new family, and I refuse to let that become his story again.

Consistency & someone committed are exactly what Loki has been missing.

He will thrive with crate training, confinement, tether training, and a predictable routine. These aren’t punishments—they’re tools to help him understand what is expected of him. Without consistency, we risk that same heartbreaking cycle of frustration, giving up, and being passed from home to home.

The best part? Loki is the kind of dog that makes you laugh every single day—you just have to be willing to put in the work. He has enough personality to keep you smiling, enough energy to keep you moving & enough love to make it worthwhile.

Whew! It has been “a week” here at Papillon Pals. Expensive, exhausting & emotional.

Some of you may have seen the shared post from Fawn's Small Dog Rescue last Fri but for those that may have missed it, here are the links to both Day 1 & Day 2 (https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DkAjBKjuv/ & https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BmRaXmNhE/ ).

Originally, we had taken in 4 of the pups from this but had to swap one out because it wasn’t an ideal place for him here (me having 12+ dogs currently here = just way too much for a pup that can barely see lights & shadows) - which is how we got Finn, a skittish spicy Little. (Finn was not part of this but instead, found as a stray 3 months back & the finder posted, advocated & did due diligence trying to search for an owner. They tried to take him to ACPS & Jax Humane multiple times but was told that they were over-capacity each time & couldn’t take him.)

Lots of vet appointments w/ getting the newbies checked out. George was cleared for his neuter & dental (he lost almost all of his teeth), & Brownie for her spay as well as “the girls” from The Freedom Litter had their spays too.

And heartbreak. I woke on Mon to find that Lil One had passed. It was the 1st night he settled in his crate without barking as he had the other 2 nights. He woke me up around 1am, uneasy about something so I just sat there with him – petting him until he settled & laid back down to sleep. By 6am, he was gone. 😔

He had been suffering from advanced, untreated heart disease & his heart strings (literally) finally gave.

I’m sorry, Lil One, that your life was less than what it should have been. You came in unhealthy, dirty, shaved down so we couldn’t see just how neglected you had been (it took multiple latherings to get the water to run clear), with dull, icky eyes that could barely see. I’m glad you came into my life. You left cared for, clean, your eyes a little brighter with a tummy full of good food & hopefully, you felt loved – if only for a moment.

If you’re going to buy a pup from a breeder, please check them out. Go to their homes. Meet the parents of the puppy & see how they live. Ask to see their health testing certs. A reputable breeder will gladly embrace those questions & give you a grand tour. Buying a puppy thru a website & having it delivered is easy & sometimes cheap but pups like Lil One here are paying the price for that.

We only took in 3 from this case. Fawns took in 14 & their vet bills are mounting up crazy fast. They sure could use a little help if you have it to give.

Rest easy, sweet Lil One. You mattered. 🪽

Rescue Life has lots of moving parts. Orchestrating a rescue that has multiple dogs can be challenging, esp when you don’t know what’s really happening on the other end of the save.

Fawn's Small Dog Rescue had put out a call to action a few days ago as they thought 25+ Dachshunds were coming in & needed fosters. So many applied as so many love that breed but then it was learned it was only 1 Doxie & several other various breeds.

Lots of changes, shifts, things happening, things not happening - & thru it all, Dawn stayed true to the course as her one focus was helping the dogs, no matter the breed or how many or how many trips this will take.

Because we had a little space, I reached out to help just as I know she would do for me.

Although not fully prepared for visual impaired pups, mentally & environmentally, we’re quickly putting up the safety barriers needed to keeping these two babies safe (picture 6 is the two babies we took in).

It is an honor to work alongside (more like way in the back of the line here) you, Fawns!! 💕

Hi!! My name is SULLY!! Sorry about the awful hair cut. Foster Mom is NOT a groomer but I’m a little unsure with new people handling me so she took matters into her own hands. My skin was super itchy due to fleas & allergies so I just kept chewing which caused mats.

My allergies have been addressed (cytopoint shot), the fleas are gone (simparica trio) & I’ve had a couple baths to make me spit spot along with this super fantastic mullet cut (total sarcasm there) that according to Foster Mom “allows my skin to breathe”.

And today - today is DE-DANGLE DAY!! ✂️ 🥜

Foster Mom also says that by neutering, this will not only prevent me from knocking up a hot babe but reduces my chances of testicular cancer by 💯! Plus she said something about being a 1st step in my potty training.

Anywho - just wanted to pop on here, say HI & maybe get some well wishes for today. I hear I get to wear some sort of neck crown. See - Foster Mom DID figure out that I’m royalty! 👑

(**ahem** Foster mom here to clarify. It was a cone but he hears what he wants. 😉)

Meet Loki & Sully

**Loki & Sully came into rescue separately - not a pair**

These two adorable little Shih Tzu mixes have more in common than just their cute faces. Loki is a 2-year-old, 8-pound bundle of energy who loves every dog he meets, while Sully is a 2-year-old, 14-pound sweetheart who prefers to quietly watch the world until he decides you're one of his people.

They also have something else in common...

Neither one is fully housetrained.

One of the saddest things I see in rescue is dogs being surrendered or rehomed simply because they aren't potty trained. Want to know the heartbreaking part? That doesn't make them bad dogs. It simply means no one has stuck with them long enough to teach them.

Some dogs figure it out in a weekend. Others take weeks... sometimes months. Just because your last dog caught on quickly doesn't mean the next one will. Every dog learns differently.

Now add in a dog that's already been bounced from home to home, had different routines, different expectations, and maybe never really learned what was expected of them in the first place. It shouldn't surprise us that they struggle.

Crate training. Tether training. Predictable routines. Daily walks. Positive reinforcement. Patience. These aren't punishments—they're simply tools that help a dog succeed.

One day you'll suddenly realize, "Hey... we haven't had an accident in a while." That's when all of the work, patience, and consistency start paying off.

Rescue isn't just about saving a dog. It's about making a commitment and giving them the time they need to become the dogs they've always been capable of being.

Hi Everyone! Mr Spock here with a little update.

I slept really good & I ate a tiny bit of breakfast. Between my mouth feeling different & with stitches in it as well as my head still a little woozy from being under yesterday, I’m not feeling all that spry at the moment.

Foster Mom says I can hang out in this big comfy chair all day & get as much quiet rest as I want.

Thank you for thinking of me. Ya’ll sure do make me feel pretty darn special.

🖖🏼 Hi Everyone

Spockers here (it’s what Foster Mom calls me). I wanted to let ya’ll know I just got home from my dental procedure. It was a pretty long day but I was in the great hands.

Look at my imaging. Pretty cool, huh? Foster Mom circled in yellow my lower jaw bone to help you understand what you’re looking at. (The tube is because I was under. 😴) It’s believed that whatever hard surface my face cane in contact with, it happened a LONG time ago. And see those little spots floating around my nose? Those are calcified whiskers. Whoa!!

There were lots of broken roots that were under my gum line & I lost a few more teeth - the rotting roots & decaying teeth could keep eating at what’s left of my jaw & we can’t have that. I may be a little sore for a few days while my mouth heals & the sutures dissolve, but I should be right as rain in no time.

Dr Holloway & her staff said I was just the bestest boy. I even gave happy tail wags when I entered the room & saw Foster Mom.

Thank you Dr Holloway & your incredible staff at Veterinary Dental Specialties - North Florida for showing such kindness & compassion to Mr Spock & to all of your patients.

My bill was right at $4k so thank you to everyone that gave a little something to last weeks fundraiser. It helped immensely.

Okey dokey Papillon Pals Peeps - I’m a little tired so I’m gonna hit the hay. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts today. 💕
