June 6th from 9am-11am we are back at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park for an invasive species removal! With the help of Miami Waterkeeper and City of Miami Government and sponsor Seatrees we are able to come together for to remove vegetation that will help protect the dunes and community! 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

This historic park holds an important place in Miami’s history, as it was the only beach designated for African Americans during segregation. It hosted family reunions, dances, and community gatherings. Today, it remains a vital green space, offering recreation while helping to combat urban heat and the effects of climate change.

Join I.CARE, Divers Direct, Pennekamp State Park, and Surfrider for a coastal mangrove cleanup in honor of World Oceans Day. 🌊

Meet us at 9:00 AM on Sunday, June 7th, at Dagny Johnson State Park for a mangrove cleanup followed by a cookout back at Divers Direct in Key Largo. Join us for food, raffle prizes, conservation booths, and a debris weigh-in. ♻️

Florida Bay Forever – Program & Operations Associate (Part-Time)
Location: Green Turtle Hammock Nature Preserve (Islamorada, FL)/ Event Locations
Position Type: Part-Time (Starting at ~10 hours/week)
Pay: $18-20/hour, with opportunities for rapid growth based on responsibilities

We are looking for someone who wants to grow into a leadership role within a small, mission-driven nonprofit. This position is ideal for someone who is excited to wear multiple hats—supporting education programs, outreach, operations, and advocacy—while helping shape the future of the organization.

You’ll work closely with the Executive Director as a collaborative partner, helping to expand programs, engage the community, and support day-to-day operations.

Who This Role Is For
This position is ideal for someone who:
• Is passionate about the environment, conservation, or the Florida Keys
• Wants to be part of building something meaningful, not just filling a role
• Is adaptable, self-motivated, and comfortable with a flexible schedule
• Enjoys working with people of all ages
• Is open to learning—even without extensive prior experience

Experience in education, nonprofit work, environmental science, communications, or retail is a plus—but not required.

💙🌿 COMMUNITY MAKES CONSERVATION POSSIBLE 🌿💙

Today we want to give a HUGE thank you to Safe Harbor Angler House and Theater of the Sea (and their exciting new nonprofit, We Educate) for supporting Florida Bay Forever in such a meaningful way.

During our cottage renovation, both organizations generously provided storage space for our gift shop and office items — helping us continue moving forward during a season of transition. That kind of support means more than we can say.
We are so grateful to be surrounded by organizations that believe in education, community, and protecting the places that make the Florida Keys so special.
We’re excited to see all the amazing things We Educate will bring to the Keys through learning, connection, and opportunity — and to continue watching Safe Harbor Angler House bring together thoughtful, knowledgeable anglers who care deeply about our waters and future.

Partnerships like these remind us that restoration doesn’t happen alone.

So much work happens behind the scenes to create experiences like this, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who gave their time, energy, and care to the property and to our community.

Join us for a Community Mangrove Cleanup + Education Event on Saturday, May 23! 9 AM–12 PM along the Old Highway in Islamorada (across from Founders Park)!

Florida Bay Forever is teaming up with Pascal’s Way, CoastLove, Florida Keys Environmental Coalition, and FWC to clean up sensitive mangrove shorelines, protect our waters, and give back to the place we all love. 💙

This is more than a cleanup — we’ll also be sharing hands-on mangrove education, preparing educational displays, and teaching volunteers and guests why mangroves matter for:
🌱 Water quality
🦀 Wildlife habitat
🌊 Erosion control
🏝️ Coastal protection

Whether you stay an hour or all morning, every helping hand makes a difference.

👟 Closed-toed shoes strongly recommended!
