💙 As I reflect on my first year as Executive Director of Florida Bay Forever, I’m incredibly grateful to be part of a community that cares so deeply about these waters and the place we call home.

Over the past year, we’ve connected students and families with nature, brought conservation science into our community, and created opportunities for people to experience and help protect Florida Bay.

I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together and excited for what lies ahead. As Giving Tuesday approaches, I hope you’ll join us in continuing this important work. Every donation, shared post, volunteer hour, and community connection helps us make a difference.

Together, we can protect Florida Bay and ensure that the quality of our waters reflect the quality of our lives.

Last Sunday, October 4th, Emily led a guided walk through the Green Turtle Hammock Preserve talking about how we can show Mother Nature as much love as she shows us. It was our first walk of the season and our guests loved it so much they all signed up for memberships! 😁

Our next guided walks are this Friday, October 16th at 8:30am and 10:00am. Jodie will be leading them! As always they are about 1 hour long on a short flat trail and free with a grateful suggestion of donation. 🤗

Emily recently got to sit down with Thunder Country's radio host Dougie Hitchcock and the Florida Keys Environmental Coalition's Executive Director Barry Wray to talk about the technology of forward- facing sonar and to invite listeners to come to our Stakeholder Engagement Event in November!

Come share your perspective on forward-facing sonar at Safe Harbor Angler House on November 6th, 5:30-7:30pm. Food trucks, silent auction, and great discussion guaranteed.

Last weekend I was lucky enough to attend the Miccosukee Art & Science Symposium, it was truly a wonderful gathering. Some of my favorite moments included:

- the opening grounding exercise led by Stephanie Hall of from the Seminole Tribe of Florida
- the fireside chat with astronaut Nicole Stott about the intersection of art and science (she's the first woman to ever watercolor in space, how sick!)
- discussions about honoring the past through art with local and visiting artists
- Love the Everglades Movement's Jean Sarmiento teaching us about a super inspiring native garden project
- Ralph Ariza of Citizens for a Better South Florida's presentation about how urban green spaces improve life in every way
- discovering Pana Mia Club, a nonprofit connecting and celebrating local community

My sincerest gratitude to the Love the Everglades Movement and the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida for putting together such a beautiful event.

Are you a local artist or author? Do you know someone who is that deserves to be celebrated?

We want you to join us at the Cottage on November 14th!

From 12-4pm we'll have an author meet & greet with contributors of The Chain: Connection in the Florida Keys, an eco craft table to make your own bookmarks and postcards, and a silent auction of local art! A few raffle baskets too! Woohoo!
