FKFGA was proud to be at the Florida Keys Dinner celebrating two legends of the flats.

Congrats to Captain Carl Ball on the Flats Stewardship Award and honoring the late Captain Jose Wejebe with the Curt Gowdy Memorial Media Award. Both have made a lasting impact on our fisheries, our community, and generations of anglers.

Always good to see so many guides and friends in one room supporting conservation.

Here are a few shots of some of our FKFGA captains from the night.

⚠️ PSA – Wheel Ditch Slow Speed Zone in Effect ⚠️

Be advised that a slow-speed/minimum-wake zone is now officially in effect through the Wheel Ditch on Lower Matecumbe.
This area, long used as a shortcut around the Swash, has experienced a significant increase in boat traffic, larger vessels, and limited visibility within the narrow channel, resulting in ongoing safety concerns and a history of accidents. In response, the Village approved this new regulation to improve safety for all users.
The newly established zone is now clearly marked with slow-speed/minimum-wake buoys. Please operate at idle speed/minimum wake while transiting and remain alert for oncoming vessels.
Local law enforcement is out educating boaters on the new rule, so please, if you are heading through this area, pay attention to the newly installed signage.

On the heels of the overwhelming success of the Fifth FKFGA Kids Fishing Expo, which brought together over 80 young anglers and their families for a fun-filled day of fishing, education, and friendly competition, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the generous sponsors and dedicated volunteers who, through their unwavering support and tireless efforts, make this incredible event happen year after year.
Their contributions are the backbone of our expo, and we are forever grateful for their commitment to inspiring the next generation of fishing enthusiasts and environmental stewards.

On Wednesday evening we had our first General Membership Meeting for 2026. In this meeting we welcomed guide Bryce Gabriel as a new member to the association. Bryce moved to the Keys from Jupiter to guide full time in 2021, and loves being out on the flats chasing bonefish. Please join me as we give Bryce a warm FKFGA welcome.

We also heard from Alia Jones about the guide participation for the latest FIU/BTT permit and bonefish study where they are seeking sample collection (f***l and fin clips) from willing guides. Check out the ‘news’ tab on our website to get in contact with Alia for sample kits.

Join us in extending our thanks to the 2026 Swamp Guides Ball's PRESENTING sponsor - ! This year, we were thrilled to have Free Fly come on board and generously donate the incredible tournament shirts our Guides and Anglers will be proudly sporting on the water. The gorgeous hoodie, perfectly colored to complement the stunning snook logo masterfully painted by the talented , was a huge hit.
