Turning Point Community Services We are 501(c)3 organization that provides emergency shelter and support services for homeless women a

TPCS Inc., is a community-based organization designed to address the needs of underserved people, especially women and children, in Essex and Union Counties of New Jersey. Since its inception in January, 2002, TPCS has provided housing and supportive services to over a 1,000 individuals. Current programs are staffed 24 hours a day in order to provide safe and secure housing, and supportive services that help facilitate successful transition from a state of homelessness to independent living.

During the last annual Point-in-Time Count, 4,553 people in families with children were identified as experiencing homelessness in New Jersey.

Homelessness affects thousands of individuals and families across New Jersey, including mothers working to create a safe and stable future for their children.

Behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a story. Homelessness can happen for many reasons such as loss of income, rising housing costs, eviction, or leaving an unsafe living environment.

We know that finding a safe place to stay is just the beginning. Through emergency shelter, clinical and supportive services, life skills workshops, and housing assistance, we help women and families navigate immediate challenges, build skills, and work toward permanent housing and greater independence.

This World Homeless Day, we invite you to look beyond the statistics and see the people and families behind them.

Every day, Turning Point Community Services works with mothers and families experiencing homelessness and abuse. We provide emergency shelter along with the supportive services they need to move forward, including clinical and supportive services, housing assistance, and programs that help mothers build the skills and confidence they need for a more stable future. Many of the women and families we serve have experienced domestic violence or other forms of abuse.

Through a recent grant, we have been able to develop new partnerships with local domestic violence organizations. Our team provides housing assistance to women who are working to leave abusive situations, find safe and stable housing, and create a new path for themselves and their families.

Leaving an abusive situation is not easy. Having the right support can make a difference.

Back to school should mean new beginnings, not uncertainty.

For some children, the start of a new school year comes with questions no child should have to ask: Where will I sleep tonight? Will there be breakfast in the morning? Will I have to change schools again?

At Turning Point Community Services, we work alongside mothers and their children to create stability during some of life’s most difficult moments. While mothers work toward permanent housing and brighter futures, we help provide the support, safety, and stability children need to learn, grow, and simply be kids.

When Jaime and her children heard that TPCS was looking for help providing backpacks and school supplies to the children we serve, they knew they wanted to make a difference.⁠

Jaime and her friend Megan, along with their children Addison, Paige, Chase, Ethan, and Macey, and the incredible generosity of the Livingston community, launched a back to school collection. In just one week, they gathered 35 backpacks and enough school supplies to fill them all! 🎒📚⁠
⁠
These two families turned a simple idea into something truly meaningful. Their community showed up through donations, Amazon wish lists, and monetary gifts that helped them stretch every dollar while shopping sales.⁠
⁠
TPCS is incredibly grateful for families like Jaime’s and Megan’s who teach their children the importance of giving back and remind us just how powerful a community can be when it comes together.⁠
