Depending upon where you reside in the Hoosier state, there may be school board candidates on your ballot. This is the first election that Indiana school board candidates had the opportunity to list a political party affiliation on the ballot. Whether you see that as transparency or increased partisanship, one thing is certain: these local races matter. Get informed, know your local school board candidates, and make your voice heard at the polls.

What happens when the public can no longer access summaries of government investigations?

Indiana’s Office of Inspector General investigates allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, mismanagement, and wrongdoing within state executive branch agencies. In July 2026, Indiana Public Radio reported that the office would discontinue publishing summaries of its investigations.

Confidentiality can help protect investigations and ensure due process. At the same time, public access to investigative findings can help residents understand how government oversight works and whether concerns have been addressed. This raises an important civic question: How can Indiana balance investigative confidentiality, due process, and public accountability?

This post provides a brief overview of the Indiana Office of Inspector General’s role and responsibilities. We encourage residents to explore the resources below and conduct their own research to learn more about government oversight and accountability in Indiana.
