Here at Discovering Broadway, we value our incredible leadership who help forward our mission to make Indiana the launchpad for Broadway bound musicals. Today, we’re highlighting Secretary Lauren Auld Schregardus. Lauren is Vice President of Strategic Communications for BAR Communications. With more than 20 years in media and public relations at PR agencies, in government and in the private sector, her current focus and passion drive creative, strategic stories for her clients.

She previously worked at Dittoe Public Relations and served as director of communications for iStudio Salons, a growing salon concept started by her husband. In that role, Lauren specialized in direct marketing and internal communications, as well as directing social media and public relations campaigns. During this period, she helped grow the business from three locations to seven locations with nearly 200 salon professionals in three states.

Lauren also served in state government as spokeswoman for former Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Tony Bennett and the Indiana Department of Education as well as director of media relations for the Indiana Family and Social Services Agency.

Lauren graduated summa cm laude from Miami University of Ohio with a bachelor’s degree in communications. She currently serves on the board of directors for Marvella Sports, Summer Stock Stage and Discovering Broadway. She also is a senior contributor to Indianapolis Moms. Lauren is a graduate of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series Class XLVIII and the 2022 Hoosier PRSA Pinnacle Award recipient for excellence in public relations.

In addition to her work with BAR Communications, Lauren also supports two franchised Slick City Action Park, the world’s first indoor dry-slide and air court park designed for all ages, with their marketing and communications. She lives in Zionsville, Indiana with her husband, James, and her two children, Andrew and Madison.

We’re excited to share that Discovering Broadway has received a $20,000 grant
from the Indianapolis Foundation to build Indianapolis’ Creative Workforce Through Arts Access. This support will help us create direct pathways for emerging artists and historically marginalized communities to access professional training, mentorship, and paid artistic employment within our community. Thank you to the Indianapolis Foundation for investing in this work and in Indianapolis!

A huge congratulations to alum Zoe Sarnak for starting rehearsals for her Broadway debut in Galileo! 🎭✨ We couldn’t be more excited to see your incredible talent shine. 🌟

Zoe has been a member of the Discovering Broadway family since her work on Hamlet, A Pop Musical, which premiered in 2021. Another one of her incredible works, A Beautiful Mind—a theatrical adaptation of the Universal Pictures/Imagine Film and Sylvia Nasar’s New York Times bestseller—is being developed in special arrangement with Universal Theatrical Group and Ms. Nasar, and was commissioned by McCarter Theatre Center. The musical features a book by Sarah Treem and had its first-ever public performance at Newfields in 2025.

Katie Spence (she/her) is a sophomore at Ohio University, where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre with minors in Dance and Marketing through the Honors College. With a background on stage and screen, she is passionate about amplifying voices, provoking thought, and inspiring audiences through the performing arts. She has long admired the work that Discovering Broadway does to enrich arts education and engagement in her community. After interning this summer, Katie is grateful for the opportunity to continue her work with the team.
