Last night, community members from across Imperial County gathered at Imperial Valley College for the California Assembly District 36 Candidate Forum hosted by COLAB and the Brawley Chamber of Commerce.

The forum gave residents an opportunity to hear directly from candidates on important regional issues including economic development, energy, infrastructure, public safety, education, water, and the future of Imperial County as our region continues to grow and evolve.

Events like these are important because they promote transparency, public engagement, and informed voting ahead of the June 2, 2026 Primary Election. It was great to see students, local leaders, organizations, and community members come together to participate in the democratic process and discuss the future of Assembly District 36.

Thank you to COLAB, the Brawley Chamber of Commerce, Imperial Valley College, moderators, staff, and everyone who helped organize and attend the forum. Civic participation matters. 👍

Today marked a major victory for working families in Imperial County. The Imperial County Board of Supervisors officially approved the final hearing and adoption of the Lithium Valley Construction Workforce Ordinance — a historic step toward securing strong labor standards, local hire opportunities, apprenticeship programs, workforce training, and long-term career pathways for our region.

This ordinance helps ensure that the growth coming to Lithium Valley creates real opportunities for local workers, local contractors, and future generations of skilled tradesmen and tradeswomen right here in Imperial County.

We are proud of the strong turnout and united support shown by the Imperial County Building and Construction Trades Council, affiliated unions, apprentices, and community members throughout this process.

We also thank the participation and support of the State Building and Construction Trades Council of California, including President Chris Hannan, for standing alongside Imperial County labor in support of this important ordinance.

This measure promotes prevailing wage standards, apprenticeship utilization, skilled and trained workforce requirements, and local workforce participation as Lithium Valley continues to develop. Today’s vote sends a clear message: Imperial County workers deserve to be part of the future they are helping build. 👍
