Hawkeye & Friends Dog Rescue & Sanctuary

Hawkeye & Friends Dog Rescue & Sanctuary Hawkeye & Friends is a non-profit dog sanctuary that cares for dogs who are old/older, have a handicap or medical issue. Hawkeye & Friends is a sanctuary.

The dogs who come here spend the rest of their lives here receiving the love & care they deserve. Hawkeye & Friends was started and continues today because there needed to be a change. Too many beautiful and wonderful dogs need a safe place to live; where their days are filled with lots running & playing or just lying around and taking it easy; a place where they can spend the rest of their lives

and get all the love and care they deserve. Big & small, young & old, in good health and not Hawkeye & Friends saves & cares for the dogs nobody wants. These are dogs passed up for adoption at county shelters, dogs most other rescues won’t take because they are too hard to adopt because they are old, have a handicap, medical problem or behavior issue. But with just a little extra attention and lots of love the dogs who come to here spend the rest of their lives here. This is their forever home. Hawkeye & Friends has made a change, a life-saving change, in the lives of hundreds of dogs. We survive solely on donations from people who love animals, especially dogs and with your support you can be part of a wonderful change in the lives of so many sweet, sassy, smart, not-so-smart, laid back, not-so-laid back, quiet, not-so-quiet, well-behaved, not-so-well-behaved but all incredible dogs. Your support will help Hawkeye & Friends continue our never-ending mission.

I'm replacing a little over 100 feet of the front fence that's in desperate need of replacing. As I work I'm under the watchful eyes of the New Front Fence Installation Supervisory Committee to make sure I'm doing things correctly. I do the work, the dogs do the supervising and for a few of them supervising is exhausting.

What do you get when you mix a yard full of mud puddles and a very active white German Shepherd? You get a "Dirty Demi." Demi loves being outside playing with her brothers & sisters - and of course running thru the mud puddles. This is a happy, happy dirty girl.

Those of you in the communities surrounding Hawkeye & Friends may remember a few years back I took in Father Gerry's beloved German Shepherd Rocky. I nicknamed him Rockstar - and he liked it. He quickly made this place his own and I quickly became his human. Every time a vehicle pulled in the driveway Rocky was the first at the front gates verbally welcoming the visitors while keeping a watchful eye on them. He faithfully stood near me until the visitors drove away. He loved all the activity here with his brothers & sisters. About a year after I took in Rocky, Father Gerry passed away. Last night Rocky went to the bridge to be with Father Gerry. There's not a doubt in my mind Father Gerry was there waiting for his boy Rocky. The only comfort right now is knowing Father Gerry & Rockstar are together again, both so happy. Goodbye my sweet boy. Thank you for all the wonderful memories. I love you and I miss you.

A great big "Thank You!" to neighbors Bob & Maryann for dropping off an early Christmas present for the dogs. Maryann works for the Medilodge Group in their Washington, MI office. The office wanted to help a local non-profit animal rescue/shelter and chose Hawkeye & Friends as the non-profit. During the months of October & November the employees held a fundraiser and raised $1000 to help the dogs. This is wonderful!! This afternoon Maryann & her husband Bob dropped off the donations. Thank you to the employees at the Medilodge Group Washington office. Thank you Bob & Maryann. We are lucky dogs to have your support.

On October 23 in downtown Caseville, MI around 1:30 am someone in a white SUV pushed two older Labs out of the vehicle then took off, leaving the dogs behind. Security cameras from local businesses show the SUV driving thru the deserted downtown after abandoning the dogs but the license plate was removed or blacked out so the police have been unable to find out who the POS is who did this. Thankfully someone found the dogs shortly after they were abandoned and called the police. The dogs were taken to the Thumb Animal Shelter in Elkton, MI where they spent the next few weeks getting lots of love & care from Deen who runs the shelter with help from her son, Mike. This past Friday Deen reached out to me to see if I had room for this pair of older bonded brothers. I said yes and yesterday early afternoon Mike brought them to their new home here at Hawkeye & Friends. Within a couple of hours these two gentlemen were part of the pack. Deen named them Otto and Hank - good names, fits them well and we think they are 7-8 years old. I'm baffled by this one. These two are such good dogs - well behaved, calm, smart and very sweet. I don't know why anyone would want to abandon them. Deen & Mike, thank you for loving these two while they were in your care. Otto & Hank, welcome to your new home where you will spend the rest of your lives together.
