Western Regional CASA CASA volunteers - Court Appointed Special Advocates - speak up for the best interests of abused and neglected children in court.

Call us - (304) 523-9587, ext. 307 Western Regional CASA serves ten West Virginia counties – Boone, Cabell, Lincoln, Kanawha, Putnam, Mason, Jackson, Roane, Calhoun, and Wayne. On any given day in West Virginia, nearly 7,000 children are living outside their home, either in foster care or institutions. Many are victims of abuse or neglect that wind up in court through no fault of their own. Imagine what it would be like to lose your parents, not because of something you did, but because they can’t—or won’t—take care of you. Now, into these children’s lives come dozens of strangers: police, foster parents, therapists, social workers, judges, lawyers, and more. Hopefully, one of these strangers is a CASA volunteer. CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system. They stay with each case until it is closed, with the child placed in a safe, permanent home. Western Regional CASA does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and age in the delivery of services, volunteer opportunities or employment/hiring practices.

Celebrating 35 Years!

How it all got started…

In 1976, a Juvenile Court Judge from Seattle, Washington felt he did not have enough information to make life-changing decisions about a 3-year-old child who had suffered abuse, and whose case was in his courtroom. Judge David W. Soukup believed the community’s perspective was important as he decided the future of children who experienced abuse and neglect. He thought this could be achieved by trained community volunteers who could be the abused children’s voices in his courtroom. In 1977, he created the first CASA/GAL program in the United States.

It’s a health fair!

Western Regional CASA is out and about today! Come meet Kelly at the Boone Memorial Health Community Wellness Day at the Main Hospital in Madison. There will be free health screenings, flu shots, cooking demonstrations, food, vendors, and entertainment!
