Take a deep breath and reset your journey to quit smoking on Monday! Deep breathing is a reliable way to manage stress and ni****ne cravings. A craving typically lasts up to ten minutes, so why not try deep breathing to help you through it? Studies suggest that deep breathing exercises can reduce withdrawal symptoms, tension, and irritability associated with cravings.

๐ŸŒญ๐ŸŽ‰ What a dog-gone good time!

Cabell-Huntington Health Department was proud to be part of the 2026 West Virginia Hot Dog Festival in downtown Huntington this past Saturday! For more than 20 years, this community favorite has brought people together for great food, family fun, and a great cause, with proceeds benefiting Hoops Family Children's Hospital.

Our team was on hand helping festivalgoers stay healthy while enjoying the festivities. Harley Walden and Nick Lane provided free blood pressure checks and answered health-related questions throughout the day. We were also happy to welcome Registered Sanitarian Adam McDermott, who stopped by for a quick visit.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, checked their blood pressure, and said hello. Events like these are a great reminder that healthy communities are built through connection, service, and a little fun along the way!

As temperatures rise, so do the risks of complications for people with diabetes. Hot and humid weather can affect blood sugar levels, increase the likelihood of dehydration, and interfere with the effectiveness of medications and devices.

Be safe and take precautions this summer!

๐Ÿ’œ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ June is National Cancer Survivors Month ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ๐Ÿ’œ

This month, we honor the strength, courage, and resilience of cancer survivors everywhere.

At the Cabell-Huntington Health Department, we are especially proud to recognize two members of our CHHD family who exemplify determination and hope every day โ€” Laura Powell and Karen Shannon (front and center in the first photo). Their journeys have inspired those around them and serve as a reminder of the incredible strength found in the face of adversity.

Please join us in celebrating Laura and Karen, along with all cancer survivors, for their perseverance, courage, and unwavering spirit.

Your CHHD family is proud of you both! ๐Ÿ’œ

A great way to start the day! ๐ŸŒŸ

Team members from Cabell-Huntington Health Department packed 100 snack packs on Wednesday morning for clients at The Hub, Huntington's low-barrier shelter.

This project was made possible through the SOR Grant and the CHHD STEP Initiative.

STEP is for anyone who may benefit from health education, overdose prevention, confidential testing and connections to community resources.

We are thankful for the opportunity to work together to help our neighbors and strengthen our community. ๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ… Fresh, Healthy, and Homegrown! ๐Ÿ…๐ŸŒฟ

The Cabell-Huntington Health Department's Health and Wellness Team hosted an employee Lunch and Learn today, where staff learned how to make delicious and nutritious homemade salsa.

With garden season right around the corner and fresh vegetables soon ready for harvest, this was the perfect opportunity to build healthy cooking skills and explore new ways to enjoy locally grown produce.

This educational event was made possible through CHHD's Active Southern West Virginia grant, helping promote healthier lifestyles and wellness in the workplace. ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ…

The annual Military and Veterans' Appreciation Picnic was held Saturday, May 30, at Huntington's Harris Riverfront Park, bringing together more than 1,000 attendees for a day of recognition, fellowship, and community support.

Cabell-Huntington Health Department is proud to participate in this special event each year. CHHD's Jodi Johnson, along with Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) volunteers Joe Reckard and Jan Gossett, provided blood pressure screenings and shared valuable health information with attendees from our Care-a-Van mobile unit.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our veterans, active-duty military members, and their families, and we thank everyone who helped make this year's event a success. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
