The Huntington Museum of Art will present director Katie Dellamaggiore’s documentary film titled “Small Town Universe” on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. on the big screen in HMA’s Grace Rardin Doherty Auditorium.

Admission to this 4th Tuesday Tour Event is free. A question-and-answer session with NASA Solar System Ambassador Ellie White, who is featured in the 90-minute documentary, will follow the showing of the film.

Because of the length of the film, which focuses on Green Bank, West Virginia, and the Green Bank Telescope, and the question-and-answer session that follows, refreshments will not be served at the event. However, while supplies last, a small bag of treats will be available for visitors to take home after the event.

“The Huntington Museum of Art is so pleased to welcome NASA Solar System Ambassador Ellie White back for this film showing,” said HMA Director of Education Cindy Dearborn. “HMA is also grateful to the producers of ‘Small Town Universe’ for allowing us to present this documentary.”

For more information about the documentary, visit smalltownuniversefilm.com.

The following film description was provided in the press materials for “Small Town Universe”:

“Small Town Universe” is directed by Katie Dellamaggiore (SXSW Audience Award Winner "Brooklyn Castle"), and set in Green Bank, West Virginia, where life unfolds in the quiet zone of the world’s largest steerable radio telescope. The film traces the telescope’s history and role in the search for extraterrestrial life, the STEM opportunities it offers rural students, and the community’s fight to protect it when funding is threatened.

The Huntington Museum of Art Museum Store will launch the online sale of an exclusive, limited-edition print by Don Pendleton titled “Terrarium” on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026, at 10
a.m. at https://hmoastore.com/

The artist has signed and numbered 100 prints on 125 # “Sweet Tooth” from French Paper Co. and 30 prints on a white metallic swirl paper being offered for sale to benefit HMA. The numbers on the prints received will correspond to the order in which they were purchased.

Pendleton, who is an Honorary Trustee for the Huntington Museum of Art, will not be present at HMA when the online sale begins on Oct. 14. Pendleton designed the print in honor of the 30th Anniversary of the C. Fred Edwards Conservatory of tropical and subtropical plants at HMA

Each screenprint is 18” x 24”. The 100 prints on the “Sweet Tooth” paper will be sold for $100 each plus tax and the 30 prints on white foil swirl paper will be sold for $130 each plus tax online through HMA’s Museum Store.

The prints will not be available for purchase in-person. For a shipping fee, the prints can be ordered online and mailed from the Museum Store. Those purchasing the prints locally may order online, pick them up at the Museum Store during regular HMA hours once notified, and accrue no additional shipping charge. Please allow four to six weeks for delivery and pickup.

“This is the third original print created by Don that will benefit the Huntington Museum of Art,” said HMA Executive Director Elizabeth “Liz” Simmons. “Also, Don has created a mural that can be viewed in HMA’s Virginia Van Zandt Great Hall, and he cares about HMA and our art, education, and nature mission.”

Working out of Dayton, Ohio, Pendleton is an American artist and Grammy Award-winning designer and illustrator. Growing up in Ravenswood, West Virginia, Pendleton became interested in skateboarding. After earning a BFA in Graphic Design from Marshall University, Pendleton began designing skateboard graphics professionally for Alien Workshop skateboards in 1998.

Pendleton has taken part in exhibits and solo shows in France, Britain, Italy, Belgium and Germany. The artist had a solo museum show titled "Fine Lines" in 2014 at the Huntington Museum of Art as a Walter Gropius Master Artist. His most recent solo exhibit titled "The Weight of it All" opened in May at Heron Arts Gallery in San Francisco.

In 2014, Pendleton won a Grammy Award for his illustration and design work on Pearl Jam’s “Lightning Bolt” album.

Proceeds from the limited-edition print will benefit the Huntington Museum of Art. For more information on events at the Huntington Museum of Art, call (304) 529-2701 or visit www.hmoa.org. HMA is fully accessible.

💙 Art is good for the soul—and research has discovered it is good for our health, too!

Thank you to Marshall Artist Series for inviting Huntington Museum of Art staff to join you as guests to experience Dr. Daisy Fancourt discuss her revolutionary book, Art Cure, which explores the science behind what so many of us intuitively understand: engaging with the arts can support well-being, strengthen connections, and enrich our lives.

The way that eating right and exercising is known to improve our health, so does participation in the arts.

Museum attendance and dementia:
In a study of adults aged 50 and older, visiting museums or galleries every few months or more was associated with a lower incidence of dementia over a 10-year period.

A 2019 study found that adults who engaged in cultural activities monthly had nearly half the risk of developing depression. The finding is an association that the arts and specifically museums are more than places to see beautiful things. They are places to slow down, explore, reflect, create, connect, and be inspired.
