Today we celebrate the incredible legacy of Stephen Maciejewski, a leader, educator, and advocate who continues to shape the plant world with passion and purpose. For decades, Stephen has uplifted both the American Begonia Society and the wider community of plant enthusiasts.

His work has earned major recognition at national conventions, including the recent Begonia Ambassador Award honoring his outstanding educational Begonia exploration. His dedication to conservation and education has inspired growers across the country, and his immersive presentations, especially his deep‑dive explorations into begonias, remain highlights for the American Begonia Society’s Delaware Valley Branch.

Here’s to Stephen as he celebrates his 77th birthday today - a champion of begonias, a tireless educator, and a beloved force in our plant community. May this year bring even more growth, joy, and leafy adventures. 💚🌱

Our monthly meeting was held at the Huntingdon Valley Library in PA on Oct 3, 2026, featuring a presentation by Khairil Azhar Junos on the tour to the Begonia Collections at FWBG and Steve's Leaves. We also did a recap of our 'Boogonia Fever' ABS-sanctioned show at Winterthur. Our next meeting will be held on November 7, 2026.

🌟 New Member Spotlight: Garnet Spagrud

Congratulations to our newest member, Garnet Spagrud, for winning multiple awards in our branch’s 2026 ABS-sanctioned show “Boogonia Fever!”

Garnet’s Begonia ‘Wild Pony’ received:

Garnet was both surprised and delighted to see everyone admire the plant’s striking beauty. When asked about his secret, he shared that this remarkable specimen began as a single leaf cutting just over a year ago. In that short time, it has grown into an extraordinary plant.

Since early May, Garnet has kept it outdoors under his deck, suspended from a cable that allows the pot to rotate, helping the plant grow evenly as the light shifts throughout the day.

He feeds it regularly with Jack’s Classic Veggie Feed (liquid tomato fertilizer) and applies kelp spray to help protect it from powdery mildew. For the substrate, he uses ProMix, which has supported its vigorous growth.

We look forward to seeing more incredible entries from Garnet in our next show.
