Week in review: October 5–11

Members of Local 5608 answered 63 calls last week — 48 EMS and 15 fire.

42 of those were right here at home in Lower Moreland and Bryn Athyn, and 21 took our crews out of the district to help neighboring communities.

When the tones dropped in our district, our average time from dispatch to arrival was 5:57 on EMS calls and 4:51 on fire calls.

All told, that's 48.5 hours of apparatus time on the street in one week.

Thank you to the residents who trust us, and to the members who answer the call day and night.

When seconds count, training is everything. ⏱️🔥

Today’s joint training focused on complex domestic rescues—impalements and pinning incidents—alongside high-efficiency forced-entry drills on inward and outward doors.

Great work by all involved: our crew, and trainees/civilian members from the Lower Moreland Police Department.

While wrapping up a run returning from a reported structure fire call, Squad 19-1 made a quick pit stop to support some local entrepreneurs hard at work running a lemonade stand.

We love seeing our community's future leaders in action. Wishing these young business owners massive success in all their future endeavors! 👏

Yesterday afternoon, members of Local 5608 on duty at Station 19B responded to a working house fire on Corn Crib Drive in Lower Moreland Township.

We were dispatched at 3:49 PM. Our crew on Squad 19-1 arrived in just under 5 minutes with fire showing. They established their own water supply and went to work, with every member committed to fire suppression. The fire was declared under control at 4:47 PM.

We're proud of our members for a fast, aggressive start that set the tone for the entire operation.

During the fire, members of Local 5608, working alongside volunteers, came to the aid of a firefighter in distress from a neighboring company. We're relieved to share that he is doing well.

No fire like this is fought by one company. Thank you to Huntingdon Valley Fire Company, our partners at Station 19A. Feasterville Fire Company, Enterprise Fire Company of Hatboro, Upper Moreland Professional Firefighters Local 3407, Warminster Fire Department, and Abington Fire Company for their help on the scene and in covering our stations. Thank you to Second Alarmer's Association and Rescue Squad of Montgomery County and all of our EMS partners, Lower Moreland Township Police Department, our fire police, Lower Moreland Fire Marshal Scholly, and PECO.

Yesterday morning, members of IAFF Local 5608, the Fetters Mill Professional Firefighters, along with A Platoon from our Bryn Athyn Station, joined our neighbors for Redeemer Health’s Hope Is Here Breast Cancer Awareness Walk at Bryn Athyn College.

As professional firefighters and EMS providers, our IAFF members spend a lot of time meeting people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Events like this remind us that our commitment to the community goes beyond emergency response—it means showing up for the good moments, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our neighbors, and supporting causes that directly impact the families we serve every day.

We were especially proud to present a $400 donation to Redeemer Health on behalf of Local 5608, raised through our breast cancer awareness T-shirt sales to support vital breast health programs and resources right here in our community.

Thank you to Redeemer Health for bringing everyone together, and to the survivors, families, and community members who came out this morning despite the rain. We are proud to stand with you.

Your local firefighters and paramedics are more than an emergency service. We are your neighbors, your union, and we are always here for our community.

⚠️ WEATHER ALERT: A strong Nor'easter is impacting our region through Sunday! Southeast PA is under a Wind Advisory with 30–50 mph gusts. Expect 1–2 inches of rain, localized poor-drainage flooding, and potential tree or power line hazards.

A critical reminder: Turn Around, Don't Drown! Never walk or drive through flooded roadways—even shallow moving water can be deceptive and dangerous.

Our crews are tracking conditions closely. Please secure loose outdoor items, watch out for downed limbs, and stay safe on the roads! 🌧️💨

Today, two classes from Bryn Athyn Church School visited Fetters Mill Fire Rescue Station 19-1 for a station tour and fire prevention education!

Lieutenant Hayes of C-Platoon spent time with the students teaching them important fire safety lessons, including what to do in the event of a fire or other emergency. The students also had the opportunity to tour our fire apparatus and ambulance, learn about the equipment our firefighters and EMTs use, and get an up-close look at what we do every day.

Thank you to Bryn Athyn Church School for visiting us! We always enjoy the opportunity to teach our younger community members about fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and staying safe.
