🎁 Got wrapping paper you’ll never use? Our birds would LOVE it! 🦜💛

We’re looking for donations of unused wrapping paper to use at Legendary Acres Animal Rescue. Fun colors and patterns make wonderful cage liners and give our birds something new and interesting to look at (and, of course, investigate!).

What we’re looking for:
🎁 Regular paper wrapping paper
🌈 Fun colors and patterns
🚫 No shiny, metallic or foil-based paper, please

That half-used roll hiding in the back of your closet? We’ll take it! 😄

Donations can be easily dropped off at the farm:

Our cockatiels, caique, Sun conure and Blue & Gold Macaw will happily put your unwanted wrapping paper to good use. 🦜

🐱🪱 LET’S TALK ABOUT WORMS… BECAUSE KITTENS ARE CUTE, BUT WORMS DEFINITELY AREN’T.

One of the less glamorous parts of kitten rescue? WORMS. And yes—they are incredibly common in kittens, especially those born outdoors or coming to us from unknown situations.

🐾 Roundworms can cause potbellies, diarrhea, vomiting and poor growth—and sometimes you actually see the spaghetti-like worms. 🤢

🐾 Tapeworms are often connected to fleas. Those little white “grains of rice” you might see around a kitten’s bottom? Yep. Tapeworm segments.

🐾 Hookworms are tiny but potentially dangerous because they feed on blood and can contribute to anemia in little kittens.

Then there are parasites like coccidia and Giardia. They aren’t technically worms, but they can cause some pretty miserable tummy troubles too.

This is one of the reasons we’re SO thankful for the wonderful relationship we have with our veterinarian. ❤️ Because we care for so many rescue kittens, we’re able to keep veterinarian-recommended medications and supplies on hand for the situations we commonly encounter. When a kitten comes through our doors with worms, fleas, tummy troubles or other issues, we’re prepared to get the appropriate veterinary guidance and start helping them.

And all those medications, vet visits, testing and treatments add up!

During our Saturday morning Legendary Acres Hobby Farm Tours, we’ll have some of our adorable rescue kittens available to meet. We currently have kittens with all kinds of personalities—from confident little cuddle bugs to quieter kitties looking for a patient person to call their own.

🐱 Meet some of the Legendary Acres crew:

✨ Glinda – Sweet, snuggly, spayed and sporting those gorgeous green eyes.

❤️ Cupid – Neutered, friendly and appropriately has the cutest little heart on his nose.

🥰 Cuddles – Her name pretty much says it all. Happy, sweet and always ready to purr.

🖤 Merlin – A handsome fluffy black boy with unique gray markings who loves people, kids and dogs.

👑 Lancelot – Handsome, neutered and rocking some seriously striking green eyes.

🌫️ Misty & Minnie – Two sweet girls who have come such a long way since arriving at the rescue.

🌶️ Mr. Spicy – Proof that sometimes the spicy ones turn into the biggest cuddle bugs!

😻 Sneezy – A bashful boy who needs a little patience, but we know there’s a best friend hiding underneath that shy exterior.

We also have more kittens and cats in various ages, colors and personalities, with additional youngsters coming up for adoption soon.

I GUESS LEGENDARY ACRES REALLY WAS HER HAPPY PLACE. ❤️

I am absolutely devastated today.

Mittens was hit by a car right next to our driveway on the dirt road near Hacker. I can only imagine how fast someone must have been driving for this to happen, and just like that, she was gone.

Mittens was one of those animals who simply showed up out of nowhere and decided she belonged here.

And she did.

Somewhere along the way, this beautiful little cat became my nighttime cuddler. She would curl up with me at night, and without me even realizing when it happened, she became part of my routine, part of our family and part of Legendary Acres.

That’s the thing about animals. Sometimes you go looking for them.

And sometimes they find you.

What makes today even more bittersweet is that I had just finished creating a magnet inspired by her that says:

“Legendary Acres is My Happy Place.”

I loved the picture. I loved the saying. I loved that Mittens was part of it.

I had absolutely no idea those words were about to mean something completely different.

I guess Legendary Acres really was her happy place.

And now, in a way I never wanted, it will be hers forever.

She showed up here. She chose us. She was safe, fed, spoiled, cuddled and very, very loved.

I would give anything for one more night with my little nighttime cuddle buddy.

Tonight is going to feel awfully empty.

Rest easy, sweet Mittens. You didn’t spend nearly enough time with us, but you left a much bigger hole than you could ever know.

Legendary Acres was your happy place. And you will always be part of ours. ❤️

Sneezy might be a little spicy, but with a little patience, he can become your best friend. This shy kitten is looking for a patient adopter who will invest time in making him feel comfortable and loved. Start him in a smaller room to help him adjust. Could you be the one to help Sneezy blossom?

This is Spicy! Previously thought un-holdable, he's made amazing progress. He'd do best in a home without small children, as he's still a bit fearful and unpredictable. Could you be the one to give Mr. Spicy a loving home? Apply on our website!
