In collaboration with the Rothko Chapel, Paper City Magazine, and Opera Gallery, we’re excited to bring you a panel discussion welcoming artists from Texas Contemporary for an open conversation exploring their individual practices, perspectives, and experiences working within the cultural landscape of Texas.

Moderated by Abdullah Antepli and Catherine D. Anspon, the discussion will center the artists and their work, creating space for an open and thoughtful exchange across practices, ideas, and lived experiences. Bringing together artists Preston Douglas Boyer, Bradley Kerl, Virginia L. Montgomery, and Lovie Olivia, the program offers an opportunity for dialogue around contemporary art and the many perspectives shaping Texas today.

Writing for Arts+Culture Texas ,Jonathan Hopson steps inside “Article”, the new exhibition by artist Gabriel Martinez.

Martinez transforms one ton of discarded clothing into an exhibition exploring labor, value, and sustainability. The work is anchored by a 30-foot hand-sewn textile that took four years to complete.

A new, and long anticipated, place to gather at the Ismaili Center, Houston, has finally arrived. Thoughtful food, fine coffee, and warm ambience come together to create a place where you can slow down, unwind, and connect.

Join us on October 2 at 6:00 p.m. for a conversation between Rana Begum and Frauke V. Josenhans centered on Begum’s artistic practice and her new installation, No. 1573 Reflectors, considering the work’s relationship with its architectural and cultural contexts.

No. 1573 Reflectors is now on view in the East Atrium at the Ismaili Center.

Keep an eye out for Rana Begum’s No. 1573 Reflectors, now part of the permanent collection at the Ismaili Center. ✨

Recently installed on the East Atrium wall, the work consists of geometrically arranged reflectors that catch the sunlight from the adjacent windows and diffuse it throughout the space.

Take a moment to experience how the large-scale work changes with the shifting light throughout the day.
