FORT WORTH, Texas (RNS) — As anti-Muslim rhetoric rises in Texas, Muslim pitmasters are winning over diners and reshaping one of the state's most iconic culinary traditions.

The Trump administration opened the nation's largest immigrant detention center one year ago in August. Located at the Fort Bliss military base in El Paso, Texas, Camp East Montana houses thousands of people in inhumane living conditions.

To bring attention to the horrors of the encampment and amplify the voices of people who have been detained, the local community built an immersive exhibition to take us inside the tent camp.

There have been three recorded deaths at Camp East Montana, and people detained there have experienced indiscriminate beatings, life-threatening medical neglect, coercive removals to unfamiliar third countries, and dehumanizing living conditions.

We and partners are suing ICE to put an end to this cruelty.

Monica Roberts was a friend, advocate, and sister to so many in the Texas LGBTQIA+ community. She showed us that storytelling can change hearts, preserve history, and fuel movements.

We are deeply lucky to have had her in the fight for freedom — and to have her work to return to for historical context and inspiration. The archives she left behind make it impossible for those who would erase us to ever succeed.

We can honor Monica's legacy by continuing to tell our stories, uplift our communities, and ensure that no one is erased.

The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected this kind of government-imposed religion before. It should do it again.

Texas families of various religious and nonreligious backgrounds are urging the highest court to block Texas Senate Bill 10 and protect their constitutional right to religious freedom.

Students and families — not politicians — should decide what role religion plays in their lives. That’s what our nation’s bedrock principle separating church and state is all about.

Texas A&M University’s censorship policy is harmful. It is a direct attack on free expression and academic freedom.

Three days into the spring 2026 semester, university officials canceled Dr. Leonard Bright's ethics class due to the university's new censorship policy.

We’re suing to stop this dangerous policy at one of the largest universities in the country — so that professors can teach, students can learn, and every Texan has the opportunity to get a high-quality education. Whether we’re professors, students, staff, or community members, we all have the right to discuss and access ideas free from government censorship.
