OPEN LETTER TO SHERIFF ED GONZALEZ

From the Vietnamese American Cultural Association (VACA) & Vietnamese American Senior Association (VASA)

THƯ NGỎ GỬI CẢNH SÁT TRƯỞNG HARRIS COINTY SHERIFF OFFICE Sheriff ED GONZALEZ.

Thay mặt Hội Văn Hóa Việt Mỹ (VACA) & Hội Cao Niên Việt Mỹ (VASA)

Dear Sheriff Ed Gonzalez,

On behalf of the Vietnamese American Cultural Association (VACA), the Vietnamese American Senior Association (VASA), and many concerned residents of Houston anh the entire Vietnamese-American community, we extend our deepest thoughts & prayers to the family of Mr. Nhan Le and to every victim affected by the recent series of violent attacks in northwest Harris County.

The brutal assault on Mr. Nhan Le has shocked our community. According to publicly reported information, investigators believe multiple people were attacked within a short period of time. This tragedy has caused fear, grief, and many difficult questions.

We recognize and appreciate the dedication of the deputies, investigators, emergency responders, and all members of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office who acted quickly to arrest the suspect and continue investigating this case.

At the same time, our community respectfully requests transparency and accountability. We ask that the investigation continue wherever the evidence leads and that every victim be identified and supported.

We respectfully urge the Harris County Sheriff’s Office to:

1-Conduct a complete and thorough investigation into every reported attack connected with this case.
2-Continue identifying and locating any additional victims or witnesses.
3-Keep the public informed whenever legally appropriate.
4-Work closely with prosecutors and other agencies to determine whether any lessons can be learned that may strengthen public safety in the future.
5-Continue providing support and information to victims and their families throughout the criminal justice process.

This tragedy has united our community in one simple request: Justice must be pursued, victims must be heard, and every reasonable effort should be made to help prevent similar tragedies from occurring again.

VACA and VASA stand ready to work with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office on community education, crime prevention, and public safety initiatives that benefit all residents.

Thank you for your continued service to Harris County.

Respectfully,

AN OPEN LETTER TO HARRIS COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY SEAN TEARE

From the Vietnamese American Cultural Association (VACA) & Vietnamese American Senior Association (VASA)

THƯ NGỎ GỬI BIỆN LÝ QUẬN HARRIS SEAN TEARE

Thay mặt Hội Văn Hóa Việt Mỹ (VACA) & Hội Cao Niên Việt Mỹ (VASA)

Dear District Attorney Sean Teare,

On behalf of the Vietnamese American Cultural Association (VACA), the Vietnamese American Senior Association (VASA), and thousands of concerned Vietnamese-American families along with many Houstonian, we write today with heavy hearts following the brutal attack on Mr. Nhan Le.

This tragedy has shaken our community to its core. An innocent young man suffered catastrophic injuries, and several other victims were reportedly attacked during the same period. Families throughout Harris County are asking not only how this happened, but also what lessons must be learned to help prevent similar tragedies.

We fully respect the independence of the criminal justice process and the presumption of innocence. At the same time, the public deserves transparency, accountability, and confidence that violent crimes will be prosecuted vigorously and fairly.

We respectfully ask your office to:

1-Pursue this prosecution with the full commitment and professionalism required by the law.
2-Ensure that every victim is treated with dignity, compassion, and respect throughout the judicial process.
3-Maintain open communication with victims’ families whenever legally appropriate.
4-Support a careful review of policies and procedures if this case reveals opportunities to strengthen public safety.
5-Work collaboratively with law enforcement, courts, and policymakers to improve the criminal justice system where reforms are warranted.

Justice is not measured solely by the outcome of one criminal case. It is also measured by whether our institutions learn from tragedy, protect innocent people, and strengthen public confidence in the rule of law.

The Vietnamese-American community loves Houston and Harris County. We ask only that every life be valued equally, every victim be heard, and every reasonable effort be made to prevent future acts of senseless violence.

We appreciate your service and look forward to your continued commitment to justice, transparency, and the protection of our community.

Respectfully,

Vietnamese American Cultural Association (VACA)
