Will you guys help us congratulate Layla?

Layla came into our care in February 2024.

After more than two years with no adoption interest, Layla transferred to our friends at Gals Best Pal in Massachusetts in March this year, where we hoped a fresh start might finally lead her to her home.

On October 3rd, after 947 days in rescue…

LAYLA GOT ADOPTED ❤️

She’s settling into her very own home with a momma who looked at a dog that had been waiting for years and said “her.” And can we please give a HUGE round of applause for adopters like her momma?

The ones who chose the adult dog.
The overlooked dog.
The dog who watched others get picked.

Rescue doesn’t always mean finding a home quickly. Sometimes it’s loving them through years, trusting that somewhere out there is the family they’ve been waiting for.

Happy tails, Layla! You waited 947 days for your forever and we hope every single day ahead makes up for it.

Pretzel has been settling nicely into her foster home.

Her favorite part of recovery is SNUGGLING. She likes being close to her people and soaking up all the love she can. She’s doing well after her amputation and is continuing to heal. Her remaining foot has several broken toes from whatever trauma she endured before coming to us, so she’ll be going in for a recheck this week to have that foot evaluated and her sutures removed.

We learned one of her canines is broken and her front teeth are starting to get wiggly as her adult teeth get ready to come in. Under all that fluff, she’s one skinny gal, but her foster fam is working on putting some weight on her.

She’s survived so much already— the open fracture, severe anemia, infection, maggots, amputation, broken toes and being so thin. Brighter days are finally happening 💕

Pretzel moved from Neighborhood Veterinary Centers - Nederland to her foster home today.

You may recognize the friendly face in these photos— Noah and his family are not only part of our team, but they repeatedly open their home to our dogs in need. They foster them and make every single one feel like a part of the fam. They adore Pretzel already!

After everything she’s been through, we’re happy she gets to continue healing surrounded by so much love 💕

Oliver is doing fantastic 🩵

He’s eating small, frequent meals well and keeping everything down with no regurgitation. His bloodwork has also been improving and he’s producing new red blood cells on his own. He still has a ways to go but everything is moving in the right direction.

The goal for now is to gain some weight over the next month. If all continues to go well, he may be ready for his next surgery to repair his PDA in about a month. Until then, he’ll be eating four times a day with limited activity. With his heart condition, we don’t want him overexerting himself or putting any extra strains on his heart before it can be repaired.

We’ve also been in contact with the investigator assigned to Oliver’s case and have provided them with all the info and medical updates we have. We’re still hopeful that Oliver will get the justice he deserves.

For now though, we’re so grateful to see this sweet boy feeling better and getting stronger every day!

Pretzel’s surgery went well!

Her PCV is up to 31%, her total protein is 5.5 and her temp + vitals are all back to normal. She’ll stay on IV fluids overnight with fentanyl to keep her comfortable while her medical team watches her closely. After everything this little girl has been through, we’re so relieved. Now it’s time to rest, heal and start her new life on three legs!

Pretzel’s PCV (packed cell volume) dropped from 18% to 15% this morning. Since she’s scheduled for an amputation tomorrow, doc wanted to give her another blood transfusion to get her as strong and stable as possible before going into surgery.

This is Pretzel’s second transfusion so we’re really hoping this gives her the boost she needs. She’s been eating on her own consistently so her feeding tube was removed.

One more big hurdle tomorrow!
