National Black United Front - Houston Chapter

National Black United Front - Houston Chapter Community Organization Some 1500 Black people from 35 states and five foreign countries came together to form a "united front."

H I S T O R Y

With the birth of the National Black United Front (NBUF) in June of 1980, the visions of building an organization that would represent the various elements of the Black community became a reality. In the space of only five and half years, NBUF grew from five local chapters to over 18 certified local chapters and a presence in 40 cities nationwide. Since 1980, NBUF and its various ch

apters have dealt with, most notably, quality education for Black children, police and Black community relations, electoral politics, women's affairs, economic development, housing and international affairs where NBUF established links with Grenada (under Maurice Bishop's leadership), Cuba, Iraq, and anti-apartheid organizations such as the Pan-Africanist Congress and the African National Congress.

Yesterday was NOTHING short of DOPE. 🔥✊🏾
FEED THE HOOD was powerful. It was organized. It was love in motion.

We prepped care packages packed with essentials 🍜🥫🍊

We built in the Acoli/Sankofa Community Garden 🌱

We stood together in unity outside The Black House 🏾🏠

And when 4PM hit… the community SHOWED UP.
Families. Elders. Babies. Volunteers. All hands on deck.

This is what 100 years of Black History looks like — not just remembering… but DOING. “Keep It 100” isn’t just a theme. It’s service. It’s self-determination. It’s making sure our people eat.

Huge salute to everyone who: ✔️ Donated food
✔️ Gave money
✔️ Packed bags
✔️ Pulled weeds
✔️ Spread the word
✔️ Pulled up

But here’s the truth… we can go even bigger next month. 🚀
If you’ve ever said “I want to help” — THIS is how.
💰 Donate funds (CashApp: $NBUFHTOWN)
🥫 Sponsor a grocery bag ($25 feeds a family)
🛒 Drop off non-perishables
🤝 Volunteer with us

Imagine what happens when 50 more people commit to $10 each. Or when 10 people sponsor a full table of groceries.

Comment “I’M IN” if you’re rocking with FEED THE HOOD next month.

Tonight at the National Black United Front- Houston Chapter, Wekesa O. Madzimoyo & Afiya Madzimoyo of Aya Educational Institute grounded Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the reality of an organization and a movement, reminding us that King was not a lone hero, but part of a disciplined, organized, collective struggle.

Using Dr. King’s own words, Baba Wekesa helped us understand what MLK would say about many of the issues we are facing right now — justice, morality, power, and resistance. No commentators. No rewriting. Just truth, context, and responsibility.

The conversation challenged us to move beyond celebration and into study, action, and accountability — especially across generations.
