Earlier this year, LISC Houston and Financial Opportunity Center® partners joined colleagues nationwide to address a growing issue: families’ assets at risk due to heirs’ property and lack of estate planning. Those conversations sparked our new Protection and Legacy Planning Initiative paper, which reframes asset protection as a core part of financial mobility.

Read how FOCs can help families protect what they’ve built—before it becomes a crisis.

Meet Veronique Roberts, owner of Kids Learn and Play Center, a home-based childcare program she opened in Houston, Texas more than a decade ago. In search of new ways to enhance her services and business operations, Roberts discovered the Collaborative for Children, a local non-profit organization supported by LISC and Procter & Gamble.

The Collaborative provided Roberts with emergency supplies to navigate the unpredictable Texas weather, as well as business courses related to budgeting.

Thanks to the Collaborative, Roberts now has more tools and confidence to provide a safe and stimulating environment for children, as well as expand and grow her business

The future of Houston showed up. 💥

Through the partnership between the East End District and Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), students leaders are committing two full Saturdays to learning how to advocate, organize, and lead positive change in their communities.

They’re learning how different levels of government function, why voting matters, and why it’s critical to know who has been elected to represent them. Civic knowledge is civic power.
Next weekend, their journey culminates in a mock City Council session — giving them the opportunity to put their advocacy skills into action and exercise everything they’ve learned.

This is what investing in leadership looks like.
This is the next generation stepping up.
The East End’s future is in very good hands. 🌟

El futuro de Houston se hizo presente. 💥
